Todd Palin rally: sign "Charles Manson was a Community Organizer" , says he's "part of the ticket"
Edited on Mon Oct-20-08 09:36 AM by npincus
at a rally in Minnesota on 10/16/08. Oye vey...

on edit: Skinner noted Todd wasn't actually HOLDING the sign (per the video)-- which in fact the still photo seemed to show- but rather was standing in front of it (or behind it, to the camera's eye). Please note that the First Dude did not repudiate the sign's hateful message.)

http://minnesotaindependent.com/13461/first-dude-and-absent-sarah-upstage-norm-at-duluth-sportsmen-for-coleman-rally

Roben Feldhaus of Hoyt Lakes was there with her dog, an American Eskimo decked out in McCain/Palin sandwich boards. (”And she wasn’t registered by Acorn!”) The event was billed as a Sportsmen for Norm Coleman rally featuring Todd Palin, but the guests of honor — besides Norm and the First Dude, they included Coleman’s wife Laurie and National Rifle Association CEO Wayne LaPierre — arrived to find the crowd in the midst of a full-throated “We love Sarah!” chant.

<snip>

Norm Coleman seemed for all intents and purposes an afterthought. Before the rally started, local police faced off with some Barack Obama supporters intent on getting near the stage with their Veterans for Obama and Women for Obama banners.

“I want to know what he has to say!” protested one woman. “I want to know if he’s smarter than his wife.”

“This is like standing in front of a zoo and watching a bunch of monkeys,” sneered one pony-tailed McCain fan standing nearby.

<snip>

Then came Todd Palin, who spoke for all of two minutes or so and lived up to his growing stump reputation as a man of few words and even fewer memorable ones. Here are a few I remember because i wrote them down: “I feel right at home here in Minnesota.”

Sounding a little like a utility infielder on a World Series team, Palin added, “I’m just glad to be a part of the McCain/Palin ticket and help out wherever I can.” (”Part of the ticket.” Just imagine the furor if Michelle Obama pronounced herself “part of the ticket.”)

5. Actually Todd Palin isn't holding the sign, a supporter is, but it doesn't make the
sentiment any less grotesque. Both Palin and Coleman obviously see the sign, yet say nothing.

Todd Palin is a jackass, but let's not attribute what that sign says to him. We don't need to.

after it was pointed out... admittedly, I took the reference and link from a blog i like, balloon-juice.com, saw the still pic, did not watch the vid. After watching it, I see poor Todd was actually standing a few feet in front of it (behind it, to the camera's eye). I am sure it didn't occur to the First Dude to repudiate its hateful message- comparing Obama to a cult leader/serial murderer.

Watch the video. Someone in the audience is holding the sign in front of Todd.

Todd Palin is stupid -- but he can't possibly be *that* stupid.

thanks.. I didn't see the video - only saw the pic, and it does look like he's holding it. It's still pathetic. If Michelle Obama or Jill Biden stood in front of a sign that said something like "Hitler was in the Military"... they'd be torn apart by the RW idiots.

was "holding the sign"- after watching the video (blech) you are right; the still was taken from the video, looks like Palin is holding the sign, but it's really a "product placement" in the frame. Will edit OP title.

22. Skinner, I'm willing to take that wager.
I actually think Tawd is nothing more than an evil sidekick to the nefarious genius that is Sarah Palin.

She is the smart one.

He's barely a 40 watter.

Would explain a great deal about how dysfunctional that family is.

No one in charge has a clue as to what the heck is really going on.

It's one thing to have your crazed right-winged supporters doing shit like this. TO HAVE A CANDIDATES SPOUSE??? I seriously thought this was a joke when I read the OP thread title.

Send this to Tweety, Fuck.. send this to very damn network on earth.

If this was Jill Biden??? Are you kidding me? Michelle Obama took MONTHS worth of shit for saying "for the first time in my life i'm Really proud of my country".. and Todd the snow mobiler gets to walk around comparing Obama to a Serial Killer?

This is just beyond out of control.

If there was ever any question as to if the McCain/Palin ticket were trying to incite their crowds.. this is it. This is all of the proof ever needed.

posted before watching the vid- BLECH. OP edited accordingly, after it was pointed out.

However, one thing to note: the First Dude did not repudiate the message on that sign held right in front of his face, comapring Obama to a serial murderer/ deadly cult leader. So, I'll take that as an endorsement of the sign's message.

11. The McCain-Palin campaign provides all the signs at their events.
Even the signs that look "home made" are not. They are made by McCain-Palin campaign staffers. This sign - comparing a convicted mass murderer to Obama - was authorized by the McCain-Palin campaign.

anyone came out to speak... it's not like Todd Palin just starts talking first.

They wanted that sign there, and they wanted it to be seen.

35. I personally do not know if signs are/were allowed at these events, however,
I know that the Obama/Biden events in my area DID NOT allow signs (at some events, hand-made signs were passed out). So, what you say makes sense. These events are very coordinated... I would think that they are even more so after the negative press regarding the nasty, hateful things that some supporters have said at recent events.

At the same time, I feel it is important to be factual. I wish more people would read/view the links provided.

15. Since when was Manson any organizer? What bullshit! Where's the proof?
Who did Manson ever register to vote? I'll bet he never registered himself.

But on Tawd... good! Since he's part of the ticket (I'm surprised he's admitting it now, because he doesn't admit in AK, where he's known as "the shadow governor"), then his AIG membership is relevant.

I hope Franken is bringing that up - that Minnesotans are being addressed by a secessionist who openly hates America.

24. So? Ted Bundy was a Republican activist.....! So what?
Bundy worked on the re-election campaign of Washington's Republican Governor Dan Evans. Evans was elected and he appointed Bundy to the Seattle Crime Prevention Advisory Committee. Bundy's political future seemed secure, when in 1973 he became assistant to Ross Davis, chairman of the Washington State Republican Party. It was a good time in Bundy's life. He had a girlfriend, his old girlfriend was once again in love with him, and his footing in the political arena was strong.

27. The important this to understand about this picture
If someone in that crowd had held up an Obama sign, you and I know that they would have been tossed out, probably beaten -- or arrested -- or both -- and their sign destroyed, within seconds.

So, the fact that this sign and the person holding it weren't removed, indicates that the campaign approves of the sign and the sentiment -- or at least doesn't object to them.

That, to me, is just as damning as if Todd had been holding the sign.

Obama, as we've all seen, stops his crowds from even booing.

Let the chucklehead claim to be part of the ticket. He's the fucking voice behind the throne in Alaska. But if he's part of the ticket then his baggage (DUIs, affiliation with secessionists, proud Union member from the traditionally anti-Union party, etc.) comes along with him.

43. I watched the video
and I am stunned by Todd Palin's surfer dude-ness and seeming lack of intelligence. If this guy's Alaska's "shadow government" then Alaska is in deep shit. Todd has absolutely no warmth, no spark, no obvious evidence of brain activity. I can't believe Coleman is so hard up that he would have this nitwit introduce him. Clearly, he thought some of Sarah's made-for-teevee personality would rub off on Todd. Wrong. Todd's babbling about the second ammendment not being like just any ammendment would be embarassing if I didn't loathe Norm Coleman and feel offended by everything Palin. It's mean of me to say, but the lameness of the two men on that stage and the Coleman's obvious discomfort at Todd's rambling, repetetive "speech" made it a pleasure to watch. I could watch Palin and Coleman make jackasses of themselves every day.

As to the sign, you can see in the video that it is a double-sided sign, and I can only imagine the front of the sign was as clever as the part we saw in the video. How Coleman and Palin could stand for that makes me wish that Palin would humiliate himself publically every minute until he heads back to Alaska and that Coleman suffers a defeat so huge that the history books will refer to it as "The Coleman Effect."

Manson was the opposite of anything to do with "community." Cult leaders are, as a whole, anti-community. Just another moran.

How the fuck do these people get dressed all by themselves? To attack the people who work at the grass root level, the feet on the ground people, the community organizers is so lame it isn't even funny.

Jeesh.

To the guy with the sign: Go blow a moose you idiot.
