Pat Buchanan needs to be FIRED from MSNBC! How many more times do we have to hear his
racist bullshit? He's over the top--AGAIN--for his comments on Colin Powell supporting Barack Obama because of "tribal reasons". That in itself reeks of racial overtones.

I don't know why they keep him, but it's PAST time for him to be put out to pasture.

1. I heard that too. Appalling.
But the more he runs his mouth, the more stupid he appears. I don't think any thinking person takes him seriously anymore.

2. Isn't it past time for him to get some sleep?
Jeeez - I swear the man never sleeps. I fall asleep at night with him on KO & other programs spewing his hate, then, first thing in th AM when I get up to work, there he is, spewing his hate in the AM on M$NBC. Of course, I then turn the channel right away 'cause I can't stand him and "Joe".

I try to watch morning Joe on MSNBC - but when Joe and Buchanan start their rants I quickly switch to the NFL Newtwork.
At least Fantasy there gets me points!

30. He's either a Bot or a clone
But he's still racist. Why don't we flood NBC/MSNBC with our displeasure for giving him a forum for his rants? That's how Imus was fired. Just threaten to boycott them and their sponsors.

3. It sure didn't take him long to chalk up the Powell endorsement to
race. I sometimes wonder if Pat really believes the crap he spouts or if he's just playing the role of right wing TV pundit.

4. MSNBC thinks the controversy Pat creates is good for ratings.
IMO, it's best to write or call them and tell them you're fed up with his overt racism being embraced by MSNBC and that you'll no longer watch any program on which Pat is appearing.

7. I wonder why they keep him since he's clearly a nutball....
...but then, they really do seem to look for the craziest people to talk to.

In terms of the word tribal, in Pat's case, it probably is racist, but anthropologically it is used commonly to talk about human groups of all stripes. So, it is not always a racist thing. But again, in Pat's case, I'm thinking it was chosen to convey a racist idea.

11. Pat used the word "tribal" today because...
... when he was spouting that crap yesterday on Hardball, Tweety called it tribal when he was countering Pat's idea.

9. Pat Buchanan says what Republicans feel...
Pat has been getting worse by the day. He symbolizes what the GOP base feels, but Pat actually says what he is thinking, kind of like that witch, Michelle Bachman....In my view Pat's comments do not have a place in public discourse, he has gone over the line multiple times and it is ugly - he is not a nice human being and it just exposes the GOP for what they have become - racist, bigoted, greedy and ignorant assholes.

10. Every network needs their "token"
Republican Right Wing Asshole. It makes the network appear more "middle" although I doubt if Buchanan knows that he's viewed as a total caricture of a typical Republican. Whatever... i think he likes it.

13. Once again, I differ with most in that I prefer the bigotry and racism...
be exposed rather than stoke the racist fires with code words and innuendo.

Let everyone see how a certain segment of our population thinks. Let it be clear. Let Pat be Pat. Let racists be racists without hindering their small-mindedness with politically correct limitations.

22. I would say a regular punching bag.
Rachel likes the debate. She and Pat have a good personal relationship. Who else could she have on to debate on a regular basis? Do you think David Frum would ever come back on her show? Do you see how Scarborough reacts to her? I kind of like the Pat and Rachel segments. Sort of like George and Gracie, with Pat taking the Gracie role.

33. She calls him her 'uncle'
Pat has spewed racist, sexist, homophobic hate for decades. Anyone pretending this is new or worse than many of his past quotes needs to jump on the Google and get a reminder.
Rachel helps to comodify bigotry. She lends legitimacy to hate. That is all there is to it. I really don't watch her show because of Pat. I don't watch Hardball when Pat is on. I remember what this man has said. What he is.

I lost a friend (?) because she sent that to me as an e-mail. I called her on it and we haven't spoken since. Unfortunately, I inadvertently deleted it, before I could forward it to MSNBC and NBC.

28. Why should they fire him?
1. You watched him

2. You got riled up about it

That's what they're trying to do -- create controversy and get viewers. In their eyes they are a success. And if they get 500,000 letters saying "We watched your show and we're made as hell," they'll be very very very happy.

How to attack national media . . . don't

Pick a local advertiser that runs in that time slot -- there are always a few ads from the local market. Call them. Tell them that because they support racism, you're not going to buy a car there, eat at their restaurant, whatever. If 20 people call a local car dealer in one day and complain, he will shit his pants. He will be on the phone to the ad manager in the station in about five minutes, pulling his ads.

If this is repeated in enough markets enough times, local stations will be complaining to the network that they can't sell local ads because of the show. Network execs will start sweating. This takes time, but is extremely effective.

It's all about money, which comes from ads. Attack that at its source and you'll can win.
