One loses all sight of the goal, abandons hope and endlessly bleats about fantastical should-have-beens. The other takes note of the problems in a dispassionate way and endeavors to make the changes that will help to achieve the goal. Ignoring problems isn't any way to operate, but panicked thinking rarely results in anything worthwhile, and is very demoralizing to witness. Once can be critical without running around like a headless chicken crying 'doom'.
The debate on both sides of this is pretty damn silly. It is stupid to say that Kerry is always right, but it is equally stupid to equate frustration at the panic here with an attempt to outlaw criticism of Kerry. One can be unhappy with aimless bitching and moaning, and still value insightful criticism. One has uses and value, one does not.
