Miami Dolphins Owner To Sell Team If Obama Wins Presidency
Dolphins managing partner Wayne Huizenga will finalize his sale of the team to co-owner Stephen Ross by the end of the year, Chris Mortensen of ESPN reports.

Huizenga sold part of the team to Ross early this year, and they’ve agreed that Ross will buy out Huizenga in the future. NFL owners voted unanimously on Tuesday to allow Huizenga to sell Ross up to 45 percent of the Dolphins at any date the two agree on.

Per Mortensen, that date will be December 30. The reason? Huizenga wants to set the date of the sale before the end of 2008 because he believes Barack Obama will be elected president and will implement tax policies that are less favorable to billionaires who sell their businesses.

Ross, meanwhile, is apparently selling part of the team himself. But he is expected to be the majority owner going forward.

Would any Dolphin fan be upset by this?

1. No idea, how do Dolphin fans view the team owners?
If it's bad, this might just help deliver Florida to Obama ;p

5. he also owned the Florida Marlins
who had the lowest payroll in baseball for pretty much their entire existence. A-Rod made more than their whole team at one point.

20. Wait a minute...
There are actually fans of that team?

Sorry couldn't resist, I'm a Jets fan. That said, the Dolphins certainly haven't done anything since he's been the owner so I doubt the fans or the rest of the league will be too sad if that happens.

10. GOOD RIDDANCE: this fucking asshole ruined the Miami Dolphins.
Ran off Don Shula and basically ran the franchise into the ground. A once-proud franchise reduced to 1-15 laughing-stock last year. A disgrace. So he can go fuck himself.

19. I commented on this hours ago on a Dolphin message board
Huizenga is more than welcome to scamper. He is well liked by the head coaches because he stays out of their way, but his football IQ is a joke.

I despise him because he's got a pathetic multi purpose bland farce of a stadium, essentially a glorified neutral site in a ridiculous location, yet instead of pursuing a replacement a decade or more ago, he's dumped hundreds of millions into so-called improvements in the dump called Dolphin Stadium. They aren't meaningful improvements but crap like lounges and concessions, designed to maximize profit.

Consequently, instead of Dolphin fans staying in their seats and watching the game they linger in the lounges and the place always looks empty. Worst of all, he somehow lured the Canes to that dump, signing a 25 year lease beginning this season. Now I thrill to bet against the Dolphins and Canes in their home games, already 4 out of 5 successes this season, but I'd prefer the old frenzied days of the Orange Bowl.

Huizenga supposedly promised Parcells that he would remain owner for at least 2-3 years, when Parcells was hired at the end of last season. I'm hardly shocked that didn't mean anything. Not that Parcells can bitch, based on some of his quick departures and changes of mind.

21. I dislike Wayne Huizenga for a long time
He dismantled the Florida Marlins right after they won World Series in 1997 because the city wouldn't give him a free new stadium! He also owned the Florida Panthers. I think he sold it. Now the Miami Dolphins. So like him! What an asshole! Good riddance, though! We in Miami all wanted him OUT.

24. Hi, I'm Wayne the NFL Team Owner...
And I disagree with Obama's tax policies. He's going to make me sell my team.. because I'm only going to make Millions on the team instead of Billions under his tax policies.

That's like cutting off your nose to spite your face. Imagine his players saying.. I'm going to retire if Obama gets elected, because i'll have to pay 3% more under an Obama administration.. so screw it, i'd rather just not have any money at all.

Do these rich idiots understand that every story that comes out like this just makes more people want to vote for Obama? No one feels sorry for the rich billioniare football team owner who might have to only have one yacht instead of two if Obama wins.

How about the family who can only afford healthcare for one kid instead of two? How about the mom who can only afford to pay for peanut butter & jelly for her kids for dinner every night instead of chicken or beef?

FUCK YOU ASSHOLES... sell your team, move away. Someone will buy it.. we'll still ge the tax dollars.. thanks.

this is good tax planning. The article doesn't say that he is selling because Obama is going to be elected. There is already an agreement to sell to Ross at a future date of their choosing and it would be dumb to wait until after capital gains tax goes up.
