The guys who say "I'm not voting for Obama and it has nothing to do with him being black. I'd vote for Colin Powell in a heartbeat..."

What I expect will happen at work - and on right wing radio and TV en masse - is that same crowd who once admired Powell's military record and would have voted for him in a heartbeat will start an all out attack to reduce him to some run of the mill enlisted guy who really wasn't that great of a soldier.

I can only imagine what slanthead Hannity is going to have to say about Powell or druggie Limbaugh.

1. My prediction: They will all change their tune, saying that Powell endorsed Obama...
because he's black.

5. I hope you report back with reactions. They were clear in their
preference because Powell wasn't running. Now they have to justify. Should be interesting.

6. I'll be looking forward to a blow by blow... Don't forget to ask them if they think Powell is a
terrorist...

10. Maybe not a 'terris'...
but certainly he'll be called a subpar soldier and it will be suggested he got where he is only because of his skin colour.

7. I got a couple of really wow's today they were amazed & couldn't
understand why...I just said he has good judgment and knows a real leader. They said he could have been President, maybe he found someone that was better. That sure left their little brains scrambled for the rest of the day.

9. LOL. My Dad is in that camp
He's actually a pretty smart fella, but he is dyed-in-the-wool-old-school conservative. Bill Buckley type. Definitely a Colin Powell for president guy. I've been schooling him on the excesses of American foreign policy over the past couple of years.

I've gotten him to read the following:

http://www.amazon.com/Twilight-Desert-Coming-Saudi-Economy/dp/0471790184/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1224469073&sr=1-1">Twilight in the Desert: The Coming Saudi Oil Shock and the World Economy
http://www.amazon.com/All-Shahs-Men-American-Middle/dp/047018549X/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1224468940&sr=1-2">All the Shah's Men: An American Coup and the Roots of Middle East Terror
And most recently, http://www.amazon.com/Confessions-Economic-Hit-John-Perkins/dp/0452287081/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1224469133&sr=1-2">Confessions of an Economic Hitman.

I bought him http://www.amazon.com/Peoples-History-United-States-Present/dp/0060838655/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1224469197&sr=1-1">The People's History of the United Statesbut he hasn't quite got around to reading that one yet.

He's also developed this fixation on Gore Vidal's books on American History.

I'd put him in the still undecided category, which is much more than I can say for the rest of my immediate family. He's undecided because he's been so pro-Republican for so long, but, like I said, he is a smart man. He even mentioned to me that during the height of the Bill Clinton blowjob fiasco that he thought he had been a good president.
