Bill Richardson's endorsement of Obama during the primaries was a game changer for two reasons: 1. It put the spotlight on some seriously wrong personal attacks on Obama by the Clinton campaign 2. It helped those undecideds who were open to the possibility of an Obama nomination make their decision
Bill Richardson's endorsement really was the final game-changer for the primary that led to Obama's victory.
Powell's endorsement of Obama has the same power, but this time, instead of undecided Democrats, he's going to pave the way for undecided right-leaning Independents and moderate Republicans to give serious consideration to crossing the party line and voting Democratic. And calls on the far right that Powell's endorsement is racist (yes, just head over to FreeRepublic to see this unbelievable take on Powell's endorsement) will only push those moderate Republicans and right-leaning independents fully into voting for Obama. The same thing happened when the Clinton campaign accused Richardson of being a traitor and a Judas.
For the far-right to claim Powell's endorsement is racist is to be passively admitting two major problems of the McCain campaign: 1. They've demonized being a Muslim, even those Muslim's who have made the ultimate sacrifice for their country, as Powell points out 2. They've centered McCain's campaign focus on wrongly destroying one person by demonizing races, religions and political ideology instead of solving the problems all Americans face
Ultimately, they've admitted that Obama's the better candidate for President. That's because the reality is, he's the only candidate qualified to be President.
