Ralph Stanley promotes Obama
I recently heard him on the radio with his message to vote for Obama. I thought this would be a wonderful way to bring in voters of southwest VA and the other nearby country music-loving states. I wonder if Obama would do an ad with him?

http://voices.washingtonpost.com/virginiapolitics/2008/09/post_89.html

"Bluegrass legend Ralph Stanley endorsed Democrat Barack Obama for president tonight while the Illinois senator was on a campaign swing through Southwest Virginia."

"After the last eight years, Virginia families need someone on their side, someone looking out for their interests, and I know Barack Obama will be that leader," Stanley said. "He'll make it easier for parents to send their kids to college and make sure they have more money left in their pockets at the end of the month."

This is probably old news, but I think it's worthy of looking at again if it will help our candidate. Should we suggest an ad with this well-known bluegrass legend?

My father grew up with the Clinco Boys in Dickenson County. Ralph is an ICON............Obama needs to send his ads to West Virginia and Eastern Ky as well! This is a powerful tool.

2. I have had the good fortune to meet Mr. Stanley
He is a fine country gentleman in the true sense of the phrase. It is no real surprise that he would endorse Obama, as he is a musician, not a redneck. Real musicians are just that, musicians and not real concerned with color, creed, religion, or any other nonsense. They have talent and enjoy jamming together. A dream of mine is to see Ralph Stanley jam with B.B. King. I bet they would be great together despite their stylistic differences.

3. What a wonderful experience that had to of been.
I never met him, heard him play in Clintwood Va. and didn't realize the ICON status at the time...just thought it was some local fella and discounted the entire event. I was not raised their, only visited my fathers family for vacation............grew-up in Pittsburgh, Pa.

What a dummy I was.......

5. It certainly was a GREAT experience
I used to go to Bluegrass Fests across the Midwest and met Mr. Stanley before the movie (you know which one) when he used to just come out and jam with the "folks". Real folks. (Fuck you O'Reilly). See, that's the thing about most Blues and Bluegrass musicians, they haven't hit it big enough to be uppity so they are just like us except with musical talent.

4. I did send an email to Obama's site suggesting that they
do an ad together. I think that would persuade so many people in Appalachia to vote for him...that's where he is going to have a hard time getting votes if someone they know and trust doesn't tell them the truth. Right now they are just getting BS from McCain/Palin and their ilk.
