I'm sitting here at my job at the gym,
Edited on Sun Oct-19-08 07:24 PM by Beregond2
and this old guy just came in who is a life-long, working class Dem. In fact, he passed his job as precinct chairman on to me this year. He's been an Obama supporter from the beginning, so you can imagine how happy he is right now. I'm mentioning this because it is people like him who have been the unspoken story in the Obama campaign. From day one, the theme has been: "His supporters are all limousine liberals and students. He'll never get the blue-collar vote." Obviously, I don't know much about other parts of the country, but here in WA that was NEVER the case. It's been guys like Tommy here, who spent his life in a paper mill, who have been the backbone of this victory, and I would really like to see that acknowledged for once. When I saw Barney Smith at the convention, I thought immediately of Tommy. People like these are the foundation of this country, and it is their common sense and ability to see through the frauds of the right that are going to hand us the change we need.

So here's to Tommy, and all those like him.

12. K & R for my Dad, who worked hard to make this election possible but didn't live to see it.
Although I do think he is happy about it, wherever he is. Here's to Harry, who was like Tommy.

13. It's also about the older-middle aged Hillary supporters
who moved right over when their girl was defeated. Cried a few tears, and then got right on the Obama bandwagon.

Nancy, one of my fellow Democratic committeepeople was Hillary's #1 fan, Not to long after the convention, instead of bitching along with everyone else when the Obama campaign had a shortage of lawn signs, she went to a lot of trouble on her own to organize a Obama Lawnsign Fundraiser!!

So here's to all the Nancys out there, too.
