Sign thieves: Thank you!
Almost an entire street's worth of Obama/Biden signs were stolen from our neighborhood Thursday night. Today we went to the Florida Obama campaign headquarters and bought 15 signs to replace those our neighbors lost, as well as a few buttons, stickers, clings and posters. The neighbors are happy, and we're feeling great about doing it.

Good job, crooks! You brought us closer together as neighbors and made us feel even more passionate about this campaign. I'm pretty sure that wasn't your goal, but, hey, it's all about results!

Actually, the neighbors only got 14 signs. See, on our way out of the headquarters, two women saw us walking down the street with our arms full of signs and stopped their car to ask about them. We gave them a sign, buttons and stickers, and those women absolutely beamed about it.

So, if the crooks strike again, we'll buy more replacements. Well, if they're available. If they're not available, we make our own.

Thanks, crooks!

1. You should have bought a security camera while you were out...
I would have.

6. We already have a camera at our place. Just to be clear, our signs weren't stolen.
We keep ours in the window. The signs we bought today were just for our neighbors, not us. The thieves hit the houses that frame the corner behind us.

7. And vaseline
Vaseline makes the glass chips stick to the post.

15. ... and habanero pepper paste

My signs only get touched once.

Then the Rethugs get blinded by the light, or (if they're female and use the bathroom before washing their hands) they have a "burning bush" experience.

16. I love that image.
Having handled my share of habaneros, I can really appreciate that (and we won't talk about the poor woman with whom I sneaked away from a backyard BBQ).

3. Great Job!
You can get a security camera for about 50 bucks at Home Depot that plugs right into a vcr.

5. I wonder what sign thieves think they're achieving...
Edited on Sun Oct-19-08 06:25 PM by Franks Wild Years
...one suspects that in their strange, weak little minds they've emerged at the conclusion that a person will not vote for Obama if they do not have a sign with his name on in their possession.

8. I'm sorry to hear it. It's happening all over.
While I feel good about today's events, I know our actions only helped a few people, and the problems much bigger than that here. Just trying to find the silver lining today :)

Best of luck in your area!

11. The Obama campaign loves sign thieves
It means more money in their pockets and free negative publicity about the opponent.

14. weird how no one seems to be stealing McCain signs ...
sigh.

it just makes them look really bad, really angry, desperate and really petty. As if stealing signs will change people's votes, people's excitement about Obama, or the way the election seems to be turning.

18. I've seen a few here, but not many.
when I was out canvassing yesterday, one guy pointed to the mayor's house which was loaded with Rep signs, and said "we have a Republican mayor in a Dem boro! "
