Regardless of what you think of Colin Powell, his endorsement is good for Obama
and that is ALL that really matters at this stage of the game.

I don't exactly have a high regard for Powell myself, and based on his record did not expect him to endorse Obama. However, I am pleasantly surprised that he did because this can only be bad for McCain!

Our singular focus at this point should be winning the election. Criticism of Powell can wait until 11/5.

1. Agree with the first; disagree with the second.
It isn't "all that matters", because that implies "win at any cost" and that is john mcccain and george w bush et al.

If we have to "win at any cost" then we don't deserve to win.

That powell has endorsed Obama shows intelligence and good sense on powell's part. That such an endorsement will likely help Obama is good.

But none of the above is "all that matters" to me.

YMMV

2. That's being picky with words
I would have said that you can't change the past and the most critical thing now is to elect Barrack Obama. There will be plenty of time later to discuss Colin Powell's legacy.

3. I am picky with words.
It is critical to elect Obama, yes I agree with that. But not at any cost.

I will always be picky with my words regarding that.

4. k&r
I used to like Powell until he gave that wmd/Iraq speech and lost a lot of respect for him. BUT, his endorsement will help get votes of undecideds and this is good. I don't have to like him to appreciate his endorsement.

If I were trapped in my burning car after an accident and Powell came to help get me out, I wouldn't say "no, I don't like you". I would let him help. That is the situation here.

6. That's a very good analogy.
Thanks.
