That's my question, I guess. And it seems to be the question of many here on DU. Why would the McCain Campaign allow Palin be to the subject of such rdicule?

3. Janet Reno was funnier when she busted through the wall ...
Palin just sat there bobbin' her head while they assaulted her, her husband, Alaska, and bullwinkle.

I have just answered a question I thought was unanswerable .... What is worse than picking Sarah Palin as your runningmate?

13. I think it's part of her "nothing to lose" angle
If they were ahead in the polls, or this was a month or so ago, she wouldn't have done this. But she probably faces reality (while trying to put on a good face to the contrary) that she and McCain aren't going to win....so again, she probably figures she has nothing to lose.

I can't figure out why the McCain campaign would agree to it, or want it. What did they hope to gain? Are they just that dense and tone-deaf that they thought it would make her look "hip" and "cool"?

It was just fucking weird...

And going on SNL and allowing them to mock you ... which many pols have done before Sarah ... gives you political cred. Shows you can laugh at yourself.

Be prepared for the morning shows to pat her on the back for it. Just be prepared. Chris Matthews will be grinning and drooling on his show on Monday, too.

41. Most of the audience at SNL are tourists
I've lived in or around Manhattan most of my life and you'd be surprised but most New Yorkers never go to the tapings of these shows, there is so much other stuff to do. I've gone to a few like the Daily Show and SNL and pretty much everyone else was a tourist. Also you have to remember these studios are pretty small and the audience is much smaller than it looks on TV, its a pretty small and quiet setting and they give you a lot of instructions before filming starts on what to do and what NOT to do. With someone as toxic as Palin on I'm sure they told the audience that anyone booing would be asked to leave.

47. In retrospect, I have to wonder how much SNL really could have developed for Palin ...
... if she wasn't going to be around during the week to work with the writers and cast. I'm finding it likely that they just gave her simple talking parts because they weren't going to risk whole skits on an unrehearsed performance.

... claiming she'd decided it wouldn't be in the interest of her campaign, and to end the Weekend Update segment with their traditional closing line. (I thought having her close WU in that fashion was also a subtle slam on Palin, highlighting that she's really just a TV anchor.)

54. Nutshell.
I completed a survey about McCain a couple of years ago and at the end they asked me if I had anything else I'd like to add. I said that I had no respect for the man because of the way he allowed his family to be treated, and how he himself treated those who had mistreated his family. I don't think McCain is an evil man, but his aberrant need for power has caused him to throw aside the very things in life that are most valuable... IMO he just might be starting to realize that these days.

They think she's so charming that she'll win everyone over, if the just have a chance to see her. They couldn't be more wrong. The only people who like her are the ones who are as devisive and hateful as she is. You'd think they would have realized the error of their ways from all the polls telling them that people fucking HATE her.

They thought she would be positively received, like Hillary was when she went on after SNL bashed her. Hillary did good and people liked it. Sarah Palin is no Hillary Clinton. They can't seem to get that thru their heads.

John McCain and his campaign staff are STUPID. STUPID. STUPID.

... her primary purpose at this point, IMHO, is to chew up media time and allow the GOP to run out the clock ... to keep the GOP's complete lack of any policy substance out of the public eye, in hopes that they can pull close enough to be able to run some dirty tricks on (or leading up to) election day and sneak the old buzzard into the White House while we aren't paying attention.
