Why the Media all support McCain - a theory
Not because they really want him to win - some might, but most know just what a disaster that would be.

No, they slant their coverage to favor him because they want to avoid reporting the REAL news - that being that we may no longer have free and fair elections in this country. That might cause a certain degree of unrest, which in turn would be bad for business and when it comes right down to it the media - and the advertisers that support them - are really in business to make money.

So they talk up the largely-imaginary "Bradley Effect" and focus on stories intended to help McCain like Ayers and "Joe the Plumber" and minimize Obama's impact. The idea is to have a plausible explanation ready just in case McCain does steal it - e.g., last time it was an alleged last-minute surge of 'values voters'.

I do believe that Obama will go into election day with a significant lead still in the polls, and they will have their work cut out for them.

1. Perhaps, but I still think it more likely that they don't really support MCCAIN...
...they support who ever is losing at the time.

3. I think their primary goal
rather than to endorse any particular candidate, is to preserve the status quo.

Any serious reporting of wide-scale Republican election fraud (which we KNOW has happened) would certainly shake things up a bit.

2. I think in addition to corporate interest

they really do miss the tire swing, media BBQ days with McCain too...TPM just did a piece about how the pundits are "adjusting" to Mccain not being the same McCain who was the media darling, and their stages of denial, etc. I do agree with you that they don't want to cover the issues..that would also reveal their own failings. And ratings, obviously. But I think it hurts them even more for McCain, since they have had such a love affair with him, and now they're a lover scorned.

4. I think that they are doing their best to either report it as close, or make it close so that it
will be something exciting to report on...and keep the media busy...sell advertising time and space. If it was VERY obviously a HUGE landslide..what would the media do with the 24/7 that they have to fill???????????

5. I don't think that's the only reason
Do you remember watching any of the 2004 coverage live?

There was fear in some of those talking heads, when they saw what was coming down the pike.

9. There were some uncomfortable moments for the talking heads
when it became clear that the exit poll results that were leaked to the public would not match the official results.

12. No go to Media Matters
What the MSM is doing is inexcusable. Obama has received way more coverage than McPalin but most of it print media too, has been negative reporting and stories. The non-porfit Center for Media and Politics also backs this up. When the American press corp keeps telling lies on a continual basis.
We, as Americans need to be more concerned.

8. Most are hard core republican conservatives
They make over $250,000.00 don't want to pay higher taxes and going back several elections their bias is obvious. I was so infuriated at one point that I started checking their bios and most of their spouses work for republicans. David G of MSNBC C. Brown of CNN Chuck Todd of MSNBC. Hell Dana Bash and John King act like their salaries are being paid by McCain's campaign. They are suppose to report facts and give both sides of the issue to inform the public at this point they are nothing but a propaganda machine. They need regulation! Go to Jossip.com and read what the president of GE said about blacks at the media conference in CA this summer.

11. Their Parent Corporations Want the Repuglicans to Stay in Power
NBC = GE = War War War, etc.

They have been supporting the Repiggies for years and they always will.
It isn't about a "horse race", you didn't see them giving Kerry any help
when he was behind in the polls, didya?

13. The media does not support McCain
Lets be honest; the mainstream media (not counting Fox as mainstream) probably tilts ever so slightly left. However, their political leanings are secondary to their desire for ratings. Their ratings will be best if the race is close. Obama is ahead now so its in their best interests to help out McCain now.

14. Go do some media fact checking
There are more republican columnist they get carried in more national newspapers. The MSM and local news outlets are also more conservative. This FACT has been substantiated by numerous non-profit non-partisan organizations. You only have 1 anchor on MSNBC David S. and Keith and Rachel that lean left. That's 3 hours out of 16 they lean to the left. You do the math and that is MSNBC.
Chuck Todd republican and his wife works for them the same for David Gregory and Joe is an ex-republican congressman. Andrea Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan. I could go on and on but you need to research before you talk about the myth of the "liberal media" because that is all it is a myth.
