Andy Kaufman was the only SNL guest that I remember getting booed..
and he was "wrestling" women from the studio audience(wink, wink) at the time....

Does anyone remember any other guest getting booed over the years?

3. Both actually...SNL got so bad that they actually sponsored a national poll..
for viewers to ban him as a guest......Andy was brilliant...most people actually believed he was randomly picking women from the audience and wrestling them...maybe Rove learned from him !!

4. Didn't the Irish singer get booed when she tore the Pope's picture in half.
I think her name was Sinead O'Connor. I remember it was a big deal at the time.

13. Sinead O'Connor, October 3, 1992
Edited on Sat Oct-18-08 09:50 PM by IWantAnyDem
On 3 October 1992, the Irish rock singer Sinead O'Connor was the musical guest on Saturday Night Live. For her first song, Sinead performed the title track from her most recent album, Am I Not Your Girl? with a full backing band. For her second, she went with "War," a song by Bob Marley that had once been banned for its apparent advocacy of violence. In a very risky move, musically speaking, Sinead performed the song a capella. Dressed all in white, surrounded by candles and (as usual) shaven-headed, she was a riveting sight. With NBC-TV's cameras focused in-tight on her, Sinead ended her "War" by crying for another one to begin. "Fight the real enemy!" she called, and, out of nowhere, produced a copy of a photograph of Pope John Paul II, which she ripped into pieces. There was stunned silence, and then the station went to a commercial.

15. Everyone was stunned.
But I think the booing happened at the end of the show, when everyone was standing there and they did the usual thanking of the night's guests.

18. I think he got booed on Letterman not SNL
In fact Letterman was his main stay for years
that played his alter ego,Tony Clifton and Kaufman's faux rage

Maybe he did on SNL but I thought Kaufman was a genius and laughed with
him when all my friends didn't get his inside joke that was a set up.

20. Andy loved getting booed -- he was expert at provoking it
He was booed on SNL, Fridays (especially during the famous non-fight fight), Letterman, etc, etc.

22. I think he followed the comedy streams of firesign theater, monty python
and The Goon Show but took it to another level. But of course, many of the same people you and I knew didn't get
their humor either.
