Am I nuts? Advise me! Dublin, Ireland to Chicago for Election night?!
Edited on Sat Oct-18-08 06:52 PM by Jackeens_for_Obama
Before I click 'BUY' on the flights, am I nuts? I want to be in Chicago on election night more than anything in the whole damn world, I want to be there for the most joyous celebration of history made....but am I losing the plot and getting too darn emotional....um, especially when this will go on my overloaded credit card :-( But who cares, please.......tell me to go for it?!

I would recommend the Westin Hotel on N Michigan Ave.

7. To save you money - ANYWHERE in the world
will be Obamapalooza on election night. You could for once be the beloved USA citizen in the crowd overseas.

The whole world will celebrate like it's 2008 and you could bear witness.

8. Darn the lot of you!
You were all meant to be sensible and say "no, no, no - calm down" :-)

But thank you all, you're right, if I can do this and get the finances right why pass up the chance to be there for such a glorious night?

Thanks so much for the hotel recommendation - that was my next question!

I'd love to stay in the centre of the city so I can walk around - I'll probably be on my own and my sense of direction is so hopeless I'll more than likely end up lost in the suburbs, as I usually do when I visit cities (:hide:), so somewhere central would be great. I'll check out the Westin, but if any other Chicago people have ideas please share them!

It might all prove too costly, I might not make it at all, but I'll give it a try.

Thank you everyone, you're great!

9. Do it!!! That Westin is a good location, Conrad would be centrally located too.
Chicago is great. You could watch the returns from one of the bars on Rush Street!

10. there are tons of hotels, but might be tough getting one now
there are a couple of the more-spartan "economy" hotels right downtown in good neighborhoods, just a block or two from the Hyatt, Westin, etc. Not old fleabags, modern structure but lower-budget than the big name ones. I forget names, but can check on it if interested (I'm in Chicago).

12. Chicago is beautiful. I'd go in a heartbeat.
But I'm not in Ireland.

They do have a lot of benches, but it could be chilly for sleeping. :)

If there were celebration parties ALL OVER THE WORLD the night Obama wins. Like for instance in Dublin Ireland. With the Media present.

29. Love ya all.....
Thank you for the encouragement in my hour of madness! Flights are booked, plenty of time to worry about imminent bankruptcy! Win or lose I just want to be there, my old heart aches with love for this fella and the hope he has given the whole damn world - I just want to be there to say 'thank you'. And thank you to you all, it was a happy day in my screwed up old life when I found DU, you're all inspiring people.
