1. McCain all the way
He will stay true to his school... no matter how idiotic and how lame the school is.

12. Yup. He's a "good soldier" to the end ... no matter how abused and used.
Edited on Sat Oct-18-08 06:03 PM by TahitiNut
It's not about the color of his skin or a matter of conscience ... it's about 'loyalty' to another career militarist.

He probably has some misguided motive that his endorsement will 'rescue' McCain's sinking campaign.

25. Well ... he surprised me.
He's still peddling too hard to cover up his complicity in the outright FRAUD of Iraq. War criminal.

2. My Honest Answer: I cannot pretend to even be capable of contemplating
what goes on within the mind of a man like Colin Powell.

Quite frankly, I haven't a clue how his mind works.

7. Everybody should just shut up about it & stop giving him so much
weight. Even if he was inclined to endorse Obama, he probably wouldn't because of all the uproar.

8. We're better off without this drama. Don't want any ties to Bush admin -- Powell was a part of the
cabal who went to war in Iraq. Just say no.

10. It will be whatever is most self serving to Powell ...
sorry, I would respect him more if he endorsed McCain, knowing it might not make a difference.

IMO, he is too smart, knows both candidates, knows the white house and the stakes. There is NO WAY he hasn't known who he thought was best for the job for a LONG TIME. I will take it to help make sure things work out for BO, but to me, a BO endorsement at this point is like a roulette player trying to push his chips in after the ball has landed. It shows the same level of political courage he showed in letting himself be the point of legitimization for the IWR - making sure BO was going to win before he threw in on him.

I have pretty much settled on the opinion that he is a douchebag because he has never taking any meaningful responsiblity for his role in the IWR, if he endorses BO NOW, intead of a month or two ago, when it really hung in the balance, that makes him a complete and utter douchebag to me.

I do tend to agree, the way he operates, it probably won't be a flat endorsement.

11. A Powell endorsement is totally meaningless
If he knowingly lied to the UN then he's a scumbag. If he was duped by Cheney then he's incompetent. Either way I do not care what he thinks anymore.

And sadly, though I disagreed with him on many things, I did have some respect for him as a person. Now I don't know whether to hate him or pity him but neither is anything close to respect.

18. It will be interesting to hear the reasoning behind his decision, if he does make an endorsement.
He's been silent for a long time. Maybe he has something worthwhile to say. Then again, maybe not.

We shall see.

24. I don't think he will endorse either one
He may seem to be in lock step with Obama's foreign policy approaches and he surely must know how the world feels about the United States under *; but I can't quite shake the feeling that his military loyalty will keep him tied to McCain. I believe he knows that an Obama victory will restore America's reputation in the eyes of the world which may be enough to prevent him from endorsing McSame. I call it a wash and I'll cross my fingers and hope for the best. If he endorses McCain, we might lose a couple of points. If he endorses Obama, I think we pick up at least four or five points and a couple more states join the coming landslide.
