'Scuse me: Do folks here know about the 'dissenting' pro-McCain editorial in the Philly Inquirer?
The Editorial Board's endorsement of Barack Obama was not unanimous. Dissenters said:

No one is better prepared than John McCain to serve as commander in chief and lead the country as it seeks successful outcomes in both Iraq and Afghanistan, and to work with Pakistan to help kill or capture the perpetrators of 9/11. McCain's actions as a POW in Vietnam were heroic. In Congress, he has become intimately familiar with the strengths and weaknesses of the Pentagon.

The Arizona senator has stood up to generals and presidents from Reagan to Bush on defense issues. He often offers sound alternatives, such as the counterinsurgency strategy that has brought greater security and stability to Iraq.

Just the possibility of McCain in the White House chills the spines of pork-barrel spenders in both parties. And McCain understands that raising taxes to "spread the wealth" is not a form of patriotism, but a burden - to Joe the plumber and other Americans trying to make ends meet.

A President McCain would work across the political aisle. He's done it before, often angering fellow Republicans. And his character is unassailable. The selfless and courageous way he conducted himself during 51/2 years as a POW says much about the man.

11. You are correct...
when I was akid, the Inky was not in our home due to its leanings. After the Bulletin folded, the Inky became more populist and at times downright liberal.

That moran publisher of theirs is changing everything about the paper - it's a shell of its former self. I treat a number of staff and they're all disgusted.

13. I'm glad they allowed the paper to endorse Obama, but..
that dissenting opinion had to have been ordered. And sounds like the editorial staff has already been infiltrated. I wonder how the board will look next election?

15. I have inside info
that will displease you in general. You have probably heard the same things. Anyone who reads the paper knows that the quality is in the hopper: columnists reassigned and/or demoted to lower levels, significant staff who are doing 'copy-boy' jobs...

Bad News Bears...

3. John Mccain brags;`` I voted for this president over 90% of the time.
And since bush now has the highest disapproval rating in US presidential history, I`d guess the majority of Americans disagree with the dissenters who think John McSame would be in any way better.

5. Puleaze. McCain couldn't even stand up to his staff and appoint a "real" VP.
They need to give it up. McCain had the perfect opportunity to demonstrate how he would govern and he botched it. The pundits and McCain camp can say whatever the heck they want but this is the reality. McCain's bid hit the skids not at the moment the economy started its freefall but instead, the moment Sarah Palin's dim bulb went out when asked about the Bush Doctrine by Charlie Gibson. THAT was the moment McCain was in trouble. Everything else was just icing on the cake.

The ownership probably made them put it in. The dissenting argument was disturbingly Palin-esque, too. The main opinion was much more reasoned and well written.

14. We should never have been in Iraq
Edited on Sat Oct-18-08 03:14 PM by mvd
Terrorism was never the focus. Oil is. I'm not saying McCain hasn't been misled into thinking it's about terror, but Obama clearly has the right idea shifting focus - the Iraq government is as established as it will ever be and they want us out.

As far as reaching across the aisle, all they mention is campaign finance reform. Nothing relevant to changes in the economy or foreign policy.

18. Well look who's a columnist at the Philly Inquirer: Man on Dog himself!!
http://www.philly.com/inquirer/columnists/rick_santorum/

Now I don't know if that means Pricky himself is on the editorial board - which oddly enough can NOT be found on their website. But if the paper would hire that asshole in the first place, that means they obviously have some hard-right wingers on board.
