Please correct me if I'm wrong
When you hold your national convention, IF you choose to accept federal funds for your campaign, your fund raising basically is over. You can still raise funds, but you can't use them in many ways during the general election, correct?

Since the dem convention was held before the rep convention, it would have been common knowledge if Obama had selected to receive or not receive these federal funds, correct?

I seem to recall that being an issue about exactly when they were going to hold the dem convention in 2004 because they were going to accept the federal funds but they were considering delaying so they could raise a bit more money first. Didn't happen, but the idea was floated about for a bit anyway.

Now, McCain is whining that Obama didn't take the federal funds even though McCain did. How is that Obama's fault that McCain accepted the funds? Since our convention was held before theirs, wouldn't McCain have had time to change his mind and gear up to run on contributions instead of limiting himself to the federal funds by following suit?

Did I miss something somewhere? How did McCain's choice become Obama's fault?

1. McCain's whine is based on the premise that Obama violated a pledge to take public financing.
It's actually an arguable point in my opinion, but even if you accepted the premise, Obama clearly made the right choice.

5. but we know that pledge...
was to sit down with the McCain Campaign..if Obama were to be the presumptive nominee..and try to hammer out an agreement. Unfortunately it was too many words for people to digest, because Obama stated that there were problems with loopholes in the Campaign Finance Bill, as well as the impact of 527's who could raise all the money they want, and force the other candidate to put up or shut up. I find it interesting how much the RNC has had to put out for McCain, and wonder if there is any limits on their contributions. I think I just saw last week where they were trying to get a loan for 8 million.

2. Well there's more to the story. . .
McCain opted in and out and in. He violated federal law but the DOJ didn't investigate his abuses.

4. He used the "fact" that he was going to
accept federal funding to be able to borrow money. The federal funding was the security for the loan. Then he was going to not use federal funding after he got the loan. Then he decided to use federal funding after all...mostly because he didn't think he'd be able to raise as much in donations.

6. Oh I see now.
so he suspended his campaign to rush back to make sure he could figure out how NOT to honor his loan?

I know that's a stretch, but it makes as much sense as anything else he's been doing.
