Wake Me Up! (scathing rant)
I wrote this last night, but decided to wait to post it...

I had to leave. I had to get out of the house and get away from the blogs. Away from YouTube. Away from the TV, and yes... away from DU.

This is the first election that I have actually invested myself emotionally. Yes, I voted for Clinton. I voted for Gore. I voted for Kerry, but quite honestly, I just did it because I thought the republicans were asses. Aside from that, I didn't really care about politics.

When Bush stole the first election from Gore, I wasn't really paying a whole lot of attention. Or, I should say I really just didn't understand what had happened. The second go around, when he stole it from Kerry, and when I saw those horrible ads, yeah... It stung quite a bit more, but I really wasn't excited about Kerry, so it wasn't a personal investment. I just knew I didn't like Bush and wasn't about to vote for him.

This time is different. And it's different because it HAS to be different. For the last three years, I have filled my head with as much political information as I could stand; many times wanting to throw the mouse through the computer screen. Blog after blog... Video after video... Candidate after candidate... Researching, learning, informing myself until I thought my head would explode.

Finally, a candidate that I really felt passionate about electing. One who I felt epitomized what makes this country great. I must say, I don't think I could be happier with our selection. Obama IS what I see this country as; a representative of what can happen if you work hard, believe in yourself and drive yourself to be better than you are.

And so here we are. I have paid attention to four elections my entire life. Each one has been nastier than the previous, and one candidate I voted for actually won. Actually, they all have won*, the last two just had it ripped away as the MSM stood idly by and watched it happen; as if it was no big deal. The theft of two presidential elections wasn't important enough for them to do their jobs and report the crimes that were happening.

And that brings me to my point tonight. Yes, the republican politicians are behaving shamefully. The are vile creatures with so much hatred and unbridled desire for power that there no longer is a bar to lower. It's gone. They can sink no further. There are no more barrels for them to empty.

Cowards.
Disgraces.
Criminals.
Hypocrites.
Liars.

That is what they are. And worse, that is what they aspire to be. Absolutely reprehensible!

And yet, tonight my anger is not solely focused on them. They cannot help themselves; they have been told it is okay to behave this way. They have been told that the worse they behave, the more coverage they will receive from the MSM.

The more hate they try to spread... The more incendiary their comments become... The more disgust and violence they inspire... They will simply be rewarded for stirring up shit so the media can get better ratings.

As horrid and detestable as Bachmann's comments were today, I cannot place all the blame on her. I place most of the blame on Chris Matthews and those sons of bitches in the media who give these people a platform to spew this trash.

How dare he allow her to go on there and challenge the patriotism of the member of our party! What the hell is he thinking? What the hell are his producers thinking? Someone going to get hurt. It is essentially screaming fire in a crowded theater. Why Chris? Why? Why would you let her do that?

I am so fed up with having to turn on the damned television and seeing that kind of garbage. This is The United States of America.

We USED to be better than that. Our journalists USED to be REAL journalists. They used to be objective and try to find the truth; not just give equal time to lies! Since when was it okay to just accept what the government tells you as "the truth?" They are supposed to question EVERYTHING!

We no longer have journalists. We have pretty boys and ex-model-wanna-be's with skirts hiked up so high that IF they had any brains or original thoughts you would be able to see them. They don't report; they read off cue-cards provided to them by the huge special interest-laden companies that own their stations.

You know, I studied journalism for 4 years before I decided it was not for me. I remember all the work I put into getting the truth. I spoke with congressman, senators, mayors, police officials, CEOs, professors... All with one objective; to get the truth, whether I liked it or agreed with it or not. It was hard work, but at the end of the day I KNEW that I had done something good. I had reported the truth. Fair & Balanced; not Fake & Bull Shit! I wanted to be a REAL journalist, like the many I saw on TV every night.

Where the hell have THOSE people gone? Where are they? Now we have Katie Couric... Miss "how can we make the news more dramatic?" Don't make it dramatic! Just report it. It's really not that hard Katie. You ask "who" "where" "when" "why" & "how", and the you do some research to make sure what you have is really the truth. Don't give me your opinion. I don't care about your opinion. Give me the damned facts, and don't try to tell me what I just saw. And when someone LIES to your face in the middle of an interview, CALL THEM ON IT! Don't just sit there and BLINK!

And Fixed Noise... I can't... I can't go there, or I'll break this damned computer right now. I refuse to watch ANYTHING from them anymore; not even a YouTube clip. They are the epitome of low-brow gutter-trash anti-journalism. They're not "News." They're not even propaganda. O.M.F.G. I have to stop; my head is going to explode.

Despite how angry I am with the MSM, I have to say that I am most angry with "us". All of us. The whole damned United States. We let this happen. No, not over night, but we let this happen; a collective people willing to be led by the absolutely worst people in the country. People who are devoid of the concepts of decency, morality and the ability to just do the right thing. While some are obviously more to blame than others, we all bare some responsibility.

And now, here we are... sitting in a huge pile of shit. The country seems ready to explode. The hatred we are experiencing now... No, it's not as bad as the 60's. We don't have riots in the streets. We don't have segregation. Police aren't lining the streets beating the hell out of people. We have already been there. So, in many ways what we are seeing now is actually much worse.

Why? Because we haven't learned. We have seen where this goes. Our country has lived it, but apparently, we have not learned from our mistakes. And what happens when you continue to repeat mistakes? They keep getting worse. Why else would for the first time in this nations history would our OWN troops be brought home to police US? And where is the coverage of this? Not in the media! Not on TV! Not in the news! As powerful as blogs have become, they are still unable to reach the MSM unless THEY decide to pick up on it.

WAKE UP! Our rights are disappearing day by day, and have been for the last eight years; little by little... during the day... in secret night sessions... Little by little, America has become less and less... American.

So, what can we do? Hell if I know. But I do know it starts with this election. If we lose this, we lose our country. We lose our freedom. That cannot happen. We cannot let that happen; under ANY circumstance. McCain MUST NOT win or steal this election. Not this time. NEVER AGAIN!

And Obama... Obama is going to have to be the absolute best president in the history of this country to turn this disaster around. And, seeing as how he has exceeded EVERY single expectation thrust upon him, if anyone can do it, it would have to be him. It's kind of funny, isn't it?

A stolen country, founded on the backs of african americans... is now reliant on one to restore that country to what is was supposed to be.
Talk about irony. It is only suiting that Obama be the person to help us steal back our country from these disgraced war criminals.

George W. Bush was a C student (at best) and has failed at everything he ever did; especially the presidency.

John McCain finished next to last in his class in the Air Force and crashed 5 planes (3 non-combat) and got caught in the $500 Billion Keating 5 scandal, but he is an acceptable candidate to succeed Bush?

Barack Obama graduated top of his class from Harvard Law, was Editor of The Law Review, is a constitutional scholar, and has basically over-achieved at everything he has ever tried. And by some unfathomable reasoning is not considered a viable candidate by forty percent of the country because of an association with a controversial Pastor & a 60's radical. Are you kidding me?

Where the hell are we? I swear, I MUST be having a nightmare. I can't take it any more. Can somebody please wake me up? I need to wake up.

2. Excellent rant! I'm right there with you and so emotionally
invested in this election. I'm having anxiety attacks at night worrying about what else can I do to help the campaign and make sure we win.

The good news is that Americans seem to finally have had enough.

4. People sometimes have to fall hard to allow themselves to be lifted up?
The worst part is that it didn't have to be this way. But like you said, you didn't pay attention. When you don't pay attention, bad people will do bad things.

9. Just got back from canvassing.
For the life of me I can't believe decent people still have McRobo signs out. After all he has condoned, after the Palin misfire, after the complete cretins at his rallies, after the lame Joe the Unvetted Plumber, after the cancel the campaign and debate, after the lack of even one inspiring or refreshing idea. They should be ashamed!!!!

16. "I have filled my head with as much political information as I could stand."
It's amazing what educating yourself about our Republic will do to a person. Colbert is right. The truth has a liberal bias.

If everyone in the United States would do what you did, the Democratic Party would be the conservative major political party in America, and I'd be a member of a more liberal major party fighting against the Democrats.

My stomach has churned for weeks prior to each election for the past 28 years. Ignorance is bliss, but self-education is a solemn duty that must be performed by each of us in order for our democratic republic to function.
