NEW YORK Barack Obama picked up the endorsement of the Miami Herald on Saturday in key swing state Florida, plus the Philadelphia Inquirer in another battleground state. But McCain got the support of the Tampa Tribune and the Dallas Morning News. These paper's had all backed he same party's candidates in 2004.

In E&P's exclusive running count, Obama now leads McCain in newspaper endorsements by better than 3-1, at 60-18, including most of the majors. See several separate stories on this site and at our new blog, www.eandppub.com

Here are excerpts from three papers. The Dallas Morning News, in addition, called McCain a "progressive conservative" and said the times were too dangerous to hand over to a Democratic president and Congress.

5. Tampa Tribune is a rag, poor circulation, conservative bias...
I'm sure someone said at least a few of these rags have got to endorse McCain..

3. The Dallas Morning News. They haven't changed a bit.
I lived in Dallas in 1984 - 1986. They were disgustingly right wing even then.

6. Tampa & Dallas papers comment on the inneptitude of the republican govt...
And then say they support mccain.

Who voted with bush --as mccain brags in his own words, on-camera-- over 90% of the time.

Define ``ìnsane``.

7. Disgusted with the Tampa Trib. They at least sat out 2004
and didn't endorse anybody. When their elderly right wing readers die off, so will that rag.
