8. I Would Love to Know As Well...
I was very young when Kennedy was assassinated but I do remember that there had been a lot of unrest and protest before Dallas but I can't remember all the details. I have never seen that photo before and it is very intriguing. Have to find out...

9. The scoop on this pic from my father in law.
My father in law, now 84 yrs old was absolutely in love with JFK. He still has his scrapbook from the campaigns and from JFK's presidency. My father in law is also an avid journalist (as in keeping a journal) - To this day he writes down his purchases and what they cost in his ledger.

My father in law says the Republicans used to do what the Republicans are doing now, deliberately whipping people up so some of the unbalanced types would decide to go get a gun and save the country from a JFK presidency. More than once LBJ got into scuffles with both hecklers and people actually trying to get physical. John F was usually the type to just let them have their say - Dad thinks part of the reason Kennedy won was his patent decency and grace under fire. LBJ was more of a pit bull - and probably part of why they put him on the ticket. Dad says he fully believes that JFK's death was either the Republicans outright taking him out, or the result of their deliberately feeding the hate and fear amongst the whackjobs, just praying one of them would go nutzo and do the job.

I don't know about this particular pic, but yelling at a heckler sounds believable - Dad has dozens of pics of LBJ yelling back at hecklers.

10. Thanks
My parents are gone now but they are of the same generation as your father-in-law. I really miss their insight. I gotta say, they had no love for old LBJ. He closed the airbase in our town because our county didn't vote for him. That hurt a lot of people. I have mixed feelings about him myself. I know he got civil rights legislation passed and was demoralized by the war in Vietnam but he could also be one hell of a bully.

Just the same, as they say, he's our bully.

Ain't that photo great? :hi:
