Can we "Tinklenberg" a few others?
Edited on Sat Oct-18-08 11:22 AM by frogcycle
I am absolutely loving the outpouring of cash to Tinklenberg as a reaction to Bachman's idiotic and offensive utterances.

But...

She was just as bad BEFORE she did that, and quite a few pug incumbents are vying to out-thug her.

Here's ActBlue's DU page:

http://www.actblue.com/page/du

While many have already given more than they can afford to Obama/Biden and to local races, those of us who CAN might consider "spreading the wealth" :) to a few other deserving Dem candidates.

Reacting when your buttons are pushed as bachman did is great, but going out proactively to help if you can is even better. Let's let the "Tinklenberg coattails" (Tinkletails?) help some others!

I gave $5 to each - let's see how fast the "Raised on this page: 1 5" listings can be obliterated!

edit: updated to correct name (but keeping "tinkletails")

2. Yes, please. Let's get rid of Chambliss next!
He just released an ad accusing his Democratic challenger of being complicit in the deaths of children.

5. Helping Chris Gregoire beat Dino Rossi in Washington, comes to mind.
Her Gov. seat is one of the Western Governorships that the RNC has TARGETED to take over, and Rossi the scuzzball has been running on the Obama ticket, so to speak. Even tho he is extremely hard-core right wing, anti-choice, anti-development, he is running ads saying "Voting for Obama?? Olympia needs REAL change too!" He's been using OBama as a way to get the voters that don't realize what an extremist he is. He is bought and paid for by the BIA in Washington, who have singlehandedly overbuilt the State, and have stuck their noses in everything here.

So if anyone is so inclined, so some research on that race, and help out if possible.

Joe Biden is coming to Tacoma tomorrow for a big rally (after a fundraiser with Dave Matthews Band in Seattle tonight), and I know part of that is to give some boost to Gregoire. ALSO.. Al Gore is doing a luncheon event for Gregoire in Seattle next week.. hoping to find a way to go to that. So the Dems seem to recognize that we need to send help that way. Dino Rossi is a sleazebag. And if he gets into the gov. office here, it will have national reprecussions.

Roy Carter, a progressive running in Western North Carolina.

His opponent, Virginia Foxx, voted against giving aid to Katrina Victims and against the Voting Rights act.

Last night in their debate Foxx brought a copy of the Constitution, and said that because the word education does not appear in it the government should therefore not fund it. She also said that government should play no role in or fund in any way: healthcare, veterans benefits, economic development, or environmental protection. I think you know what that would amount to. And of course Foxx also called all Democrats, "Godless Socialists," on the House floor two weeks ago.

Roy Carter is running ahead 41-40% but is being outspent 7-1. He could use some help.

9. It requires a covergence of events....
DU didn't do this whole Tinklenberg event. Kos was already on it when it was posted here, and it was a reaction to an interview on a major cable news show, and got picked up by several internet groups including DU, Kos, and Fark.

I think it's a great idea to use DU to get support for other candidates, but in order for it to get as big as T's, something has to spark it, like another idiot like Bachman.

11. It's not "Tinkleberg" it's Tinklenberg
I'd prefer "Tinklen" for short if I was him over "Tinkle" -- that would piss me off.

Obviously, his parents never thought he'd run for public office either.

14. Ca could use your help to turn a little more blue!
http://www.charliebrownforcongress.org/

Doing good and we hope to see him take Do-Nothings old seat, but we could still use a little help here. Charlie is a VoteVets favorite, and he can really win in a district that was supposed to be safely red.

http://www.durstonforcongress.org/

Uphill battle here against Lungren -a real pug POS who is in the pocket of big oil. Even 5 or 10 bucks could help Bill Durston. His one and only debate is coming up on Oct 22, and it would be just great to have some more money to announce. I've knocked on doors, I've phone banked and believe me, Bill is the real deal.

I ask all Duers to do what they can.

donate to Democratic Senatorial candidates in close races. A party in the minority in the House is just SOL, but in the Senate a minority party that still has 40+ votes can stop anything the majority wants to do, if they maintain party discipline.

The story of the next two years could well be how the Senate Republicans made the election of President Obama an empty victory.

Here is the list of our Senate candidates in toss up races:
Kay Hagan in North Carolina, who is running against the nasty Liddy Dole.
Mark Begich in Alaska, who is running against Ted build-my-house-for-free Stevens.
Ronnie Musgrove in Alabama, who is running against Roger Wicker, the jerk appointed to replace Trent Lott and who uses homophobia in his tv ads.
Jeff Merkley in Oregon, who is running against Gordon Smith.
Jim Martin in Georgia, who is running against Saxby Chambliss the asshole who said Vietnam vet triple amputee Max Cleland was insufficiently patriotic and probably an Al-Qaeda sympathizer.

You might also consider donating to Jean Shaheen who's running in New Hampshire against the odious John Sunnunu. She's favored to win, so it's not a toss up race.

Or you could donate to Bruce Lunsford in Kentucky who's running against Mitch McConnell. McConnell is favored to win, but there's always hope.

It's nice to slap at nuisance nutjobs like Michelle Bachmann by donating to her opponent, but she can't hurt you at all since she's in the minority party in the House and going to be even more powerless for the next two years. These Republican Senate candidates however, can and will hurt you, and they'll be doing all they can to derail President Obama.

I see I left out Al Franken. He's in a toss up race too. I worry though that people pick him first to donate to because he's a familiar face from tv. I donated to him second, after donating to my own state's Senate candidate for that reason. But Al's got plenty of his own money I would think and these other candidates are just as important.
