6. Alamance County is a KEY battleground for the entire state of NC.
Elon is 2 miles from my house, but you could not have PAID me to go see this bimbo. In retrospect, I hate I didn't go protest! This student was within his rights.

I found out later that DL Hughley was there - would have liked to have seen him (he was protesting Palin)

14. It's not a Quaker school. It's related to the United Church of Christ.

No less crazy, though. The UCC is Obama's denomination. And mine. As a member of the UCC, I'm deeply disappointed to see these students behaving like jack-booted thugs. Freedom of expression and thought are central to our faith tradition. Elon needs to do a better job teaching these values.

Edit: Here's a link to the Elon site. The margin note to the left mentions its relationship to the UCC. http://www.elon.edu/e-web/visit/about_elon.xhtml

7. Recommended.
I hope more people hear about this. This is what it is like down here in NC for anyone who isn't a rabid right wing nutbag. What a shit hole.

12. He should file charges against the people that attacked him for
assault and battery and theft. They grabbed his wrists and took his signs.

13. here is the email of the Sheriff of Alamance County if you want to give him an earful
terry.johnson@alamance-nc.com

I just did.

Sheriff Johnson,

I am writing to inquire about an event that occurred at the Palin Rally in Latham Park yesterday.
A young man was arrested for speaking out, as it is his Constitutional right.
Your officers took him from the rally and put him in a jail cell just for saying words that Rally organizers disapproved of.
They gave him no chance to explain the situation and went straight to putting him in an armlock.
You can view everything on video here: http://www.elon.edu/pendulum/Story.aspx?id=1134

My question to you is, are your officers aware of the First Amendment? Are they aware that it always applies? Are they aware that they trampled our Constitution when they dragged this young man off?

I am correct in assuming that Alamance County is a part of the United States, right?
Then why are the highest laws of the US ignored there?

I understand that Republicans don't like to be reminded that people dislike their candidates, but they have no right to snuff out the voice of the opposition. And your officers have no business in helping this to happen.

It might be wise for you to make the Constitution required reading for your officers. They clearly are in the dark when it comes to the liberties the Constitution guarantees.

Thank you for your time.

15. Here is the link to the "letters to the editor" of the Times-News, & THEIR coverage of the arrest.
County. I didn't see sheriff's deputies--I saw highway patrolmen leading the young man out.

Here is the link to the coverage in the local newspaper:

Here is the link to write a letter to that same newspaper. I posted in error earlier when I said to write the student newspaper at Elon - they only allow students and alumni (which means I could write a letter since I am an alum.)
