Michelle Bachman Must Be Wondering What She Stepped In Last Night.

Last night when I posted the video of Chris Matthews' amazing interchange with Minnesota Representative Michelle Bachman, I thought that this was one of the scariest things I's heard lately uttered by a politician in public.

Imagine a statement that called up the ghost of the late Senator from Wisconsin, Joe McCarthy, with his attacks on anti-Americans during the height of the 50s Red Scare. That, of course, was a highlight of my childhood and one of the first times that television played such an important role in spreading propaganda via television (the House UnAmerican Activities Committee - HUAC - joined McCarthy in this mudbath, which has been well documented in film and story).

Bachman implied to Matthews that congressional Liberalism was the equivalent of anti-Americanism, and that the media should start an investigation of just that concern. When Matthews asked her who in Congress she would single out as anti-American, she evaded the issue... but she made it clear that Obama fit this mold.

Now, the strange thing is that, in her debate with a Democratic opponent only a few days ago, Bachman tried to separate herself from Bush and the Republicans and made this statement about Obama:
If the presidency would somehow go to Barack Obama, I would welcome him to the 6th District as well. As a matter of fact, I would put my hand on his shoulder and give him a kiss if he wanted to.
So kissing anti-Americans must be OK.

The voters in Minnesota must be shaking their heads in wonder this morning. A petition has gone up on the web to censure Bachman, which, as I last looked, had over 10,000 signatures already. And the HuffPo has noted that:"a Democratic campaign official emailed that Bachmann's Democratic opponent has raised at least $23,000 online since the Hardball segment aired."

And we move onward into November.

4. The creepazoid factor with Michelle Bachmann is astronomically high.
Let this torrent of support for El Tinklenberg translate to a big Democratic take-away in that district this coming Nov. 4th.

5. actually, TV didn't play a role in spreading propaganda, it stopped it
LBJ was Senate Majority Leader and wanted to stop Joe McCarthy but it was a scary proposition. Joe turned on everyone who spoke out against him and destroyed them. Eisenhower was even afraid of saying anything against Joe.

LBJ knew that he had to change public perception about Joe and his hearings. The public believed and supported McCarthy and thought him a hero for saving the country from traitors.

Johnson decided the best way to destroy McCarthy was to televise his hearings.

Once Americans saw what a petty tyrant Joe was in their living rooms all day every day public opinion quickly changed and the Senate was able to stop him.

Minor point but a great story from history we should not forget when we think of TV as all bad and just a propaganda tool. It can be used for good too...like getting rid of Bachman.

Oh, and Tinkleberg has raised over $111K as of this morning just through ActBlue. That doesn't count the many donations some of us made directly to his web site.

11. Up to $124K now. I predicted he'll make $250K off her appearance before its over
not everyone uses Act Blue and there are links directly to Tinklenberg's site, with articles and links to her interview, all over the web.

Heck, maybe he'll make more.

12. Exactly
When I saw the interview I saw Mathews was outraged and he just kept egging her on and dragging those ridiculous ideas out of her one by one.
He took her down in a way. He could see what she was and wanted to expose it. He deserves some credit for that interview.

7. "I would give him a kiss if he wanted to"?? That alone should tell you all you need to know.
WTF kind of comment IS THAT? I'd give him a kiss???

Yes, her comments on Matthews were SO bad that I wanted to throw my computer across the room (and I'm not the angry type), but her bizarro comment about kissing him if he "wanted to", shows me that she's unstable. You just don't SAY those things about another adult in office.

10. That comment was in reference to when she grabbed *bush & kissed him after his 2007 SOTU speech.
It was really quite the famous video moment.

One thing I haven't seen brought up in all the Bachmann threads that have proliferated since last night, is that when she first ran for Congress 2 years ago, she declared that she was running because "God told me to."

She is TOTALLY a nutball.

8. her spouse is a Regent U grad. Need we say more? Oh, yes,
she attended the Oral Roberts lawskule, which later shut down due to lack of interest.

She is a vile, poisonous viper. If she wins re-election, woe to America, and shame on Minnesota. To think I'm giving a speech in that state next month.

9. also see her opponent's letter at dKos.

http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2008/10/18/2550/3286/...

What I really appreciated about Matthews, was not once did he attack her, he simply led her on to her natural state of vileness. She did it to herself.

And being an Oral Roberts' brainwashed lawyer, I can see why she failed to understand what was happening, no, what she was doing to herself.

Their stock should be zooming after this election season, and she's an excellent example why.

14. She was wallowing in it yesterday.
I do hope the money advantage given to her opponent is enough to send her back to MN.

it was only a matter of time before the stink became unmistakable.
