Back in the day SNL might have confronted Palin with blank cue cards
Because SNL is live there have been a lot of "incidents" over the years. (My avatar, Elvis Costello, was instructed not to play a certain song on SNL, walked out and played it anyway. It's a live show.)

But nothing odd will happen tonight. Just some faux-edgy self-deprecation on things that don't matter.

1. My thoughts exactly
If we're wrong wrong I can catch it on youtube in the morning. The potential for anything interesting is low so my 46 year old butt will be in bed.

and hold a press conference, in leiu of a skit.

It would be amazing!

this is NYC and I suspect the bulk of the people at the show are more progressive than conservative

12. My fear is they load the studio with McCaniacs, therefore guaranteeing
a partisan crowd. But, since I am going to bed and NOT watching it (I promise, as a Bramaged Dain, I will not watch it on YouTube either) I have nothing to fear.

6. I think SNL will surprise us tonight.
After Bachmann's rant yesterday, the GOP is going to have a bright light shining upon them and their beliefs. What makes things even funnier is that SNL has an actor that actually resembles Bachmann (she does the Suze Orman parodies). If I were Palin, I'd back out while I still had the chance but a narcissist rarely takes caution when fame is on the line.

Edited on Sat Oct-18-08 10:35 AM by cryingshame
fucking pathetic.

you are not a progressive. you're a fundamentalist.

objecting to shit that hasn't even happened yet. that you haven't even seen.

and I was in high school when the original SNL was on and watched religiously every week.

your conjecture about their using blank cards is bullshit.

is today's show a pale shadow of the original? yes.

but i'm sick of the hypocrites on DU who post this crap.

11. Considering that the producer of SNL, Lorne Michaels,
is a Republican and a McCain supporter, I'm sure all of the cast and crew will be warned to be on their best behavior. They will do whatever they can to try and make her look good.

McCain is the only R that Michaels has donated to. He's also made donations to:

Obama
Chris Dodd
Al Franken
John Kerry
Chuck Schumer
Tom Carper
Larry Graham
Bob Kerrey
Howard Berman
Mark Green
Bob Graham
Bob Abrams
Julian Bond
Patrick Moynihan

oh, and Ralph Nader too.

The VAST majority of his donations over the years have been to Dem candidates, including the max to Obama this cycle.

http://www.newsmeat.com/fec/bystate_detail.php?st=NY&last=michaels&first=lorne

He may not be the purest of Dems, but he's definitely not a Republican.

20. If he's a Republican,

SNL sure doesn't show it.

Just look at their 'Weekend Update'.

My feeling is that Palin will NOT be among friends tonight.

They will try to be civil, but this should be interesting.

29. Elvis was an on-camera change...
He was going to play "Less than Zero" but realized after a few bars that the US wouldn't get the references, so he switched to the powerful "Radio Radio". I'd say it was less ideological than commercial... LTZ is kind of mid-tempo and thoughtful, while RR helped propel his "angry young man" image AND wake people up at almost 1am.

Anyone remember who was the host that evening? And why drummer Pete Thomas had a t-shirt that said "Thanks Malc" ?

33. I think their intention was to start LTZ then change
The way he swivels around and nods to the lads seems very pre-arranged (and conspiratorial) to me.

For some reason I've never been sure of either his label or NBC had really not wanted him to do RADIO, RADIO.

(Ironic, since LTZ is the more controversial song.)

41. The winner of their "Anyone can Host" contest: Mrs. Miskel Spillman
I think one reason they chose her was they'd had the Pistols booked, and they wanted the sweet little old lady to say "Ladies and Gentlemen, the Sex Pistols" -- of course 30 years ago, that would have been a better laugh than it is today.

Amy Poehler is LEAVING the show in just a few weeks.

There is an opening there for something really GOOD and UNEXPECTED to happen if she happens to be on the same set with Palin or even in a following skit.
