What will happen to Palin after November?
I'm wondering what will become of Sarah Palin, after November 4th--and
after Obama wins (I'm not being cocky or complacent either--I'm working
hard for Obama and still donating!).

Do most people believe that she has a bright future with the Republican party or not?

My husband and I had this discussion last night. I feel that she has been destroyed and
turned into a parody of herself. She's a joke. The only thing propping her up--is the
20 percent fringe in the Republican party, and McCain's positive talking points about her.

The fact is--McCain has to say those things about Palin. I'm sure most of the people
surrounding her, think she's a complete idiot and a drag on the ticket--like we do. However,
they must--ahem, "put lipstick on a pig" for public-relations purposes.

I think she slinks back to Alaska, as damaged goods. I think she is forever known as the worst
VP pick in history, on the most failed, discombobulated Republican presidential ticket EVER.

I say she has no future in national politics, and that she'll be lucky to survive Alaskan politics
in the long term.

What do others think? Is Palin's political career bright after November 4th (assuming they lose)
or not?

6. She's toast.
One way or another, she's finished. She will be lucky to serve out her one and only term. She will never win another statewide election, in Alaska or any other state.

That's what my husband predicts.

She already has a background in "journalism."

On Edit: My hope is that she'll return to Alaska never to be seen again.

Palin has delusions of grandeur about herself.
Edited on Sat Oct-18-08 08:56 AM by political_Dem
She's going to inset her way into the limelight somehow.

But not until Alaska has a way of prosecuting her corruption and facilitating her impeachment. She'll probably get a slap on the wrists. It's not right, but knowing how white privilege works in America it will happen.

After that, she's on a one-way trip to FOX news. Once there, she's going to spew her hatred on television while following in the footsteps of Rush, Pat Buchanan and Tony Snow.

(This will probably be a likely route if Bachmann is ousted as well. FOX loves demagogues and all their nastiness.)

There's no way this woman is going to disappear, sadly.

10. Jail

Or, worst case, she will lose her re-election bid and never be heard from again.

Until then, the real fun will be in about January or February, when she gives some interview where she reveals that McCain's advisers were "heavy-handed" and wouldn't let her speak to the public. Bet on it.

11. I predict she ends up on a failed morning talk show
Not a joke, but I see her with a two month career on daytime television, like Goodmorning Montana. She discusses recipes and homemaking while inserting dozens of "you bethchas" and "dontcha knows". She winds up hocking goods on QVC latenight after that. The First Dude, leaves her after her failed attempts and runs away with some other snow machine racer. Bristol rebels against mom and her family and leaves Levi after a year and eventually becomes a Democratic Senator from Alaska.

21. I agree with the QVC prediction
During the VP debate, I had the unsettling feeling that I was watching a split-screen between C-Span (Biden) and QVC (Palin). She was using the same speech rhythms and obsessive enthusiasm as someone pitching on QVC, like McCain's campaign was a Diamonique brooch. That's what she's really trained to do. I wonder if any viewers called to order the flag pin she was wearing.

19. How many of us will be keeping The Anchorage Daily News bookmarked?
This DU'er for one. I'll be curious how she fares in Alaska after this. Will she be toast? More scandals? Run for reelection? Run for Senate? Be a wingnut star in another venue?

I predict she will try a run for the president in 2012 but will only appeal to a vocal but narrowing base and go down in flames.

I'm really looking forward to the inside politics honest analysis of her and failed McCain/Palin campaign in the coming months. Especially from the Repuke side.

25. I hope you're right, but we can never be sure in this country
I thought Nixon's career was over after he consecutive lost the presidential election of 1960 and the California Governor election of 1962. But then he came back and won the presidency in 68 and again in 72.

And I thought that Reagan would be considered far too extreme to ever have a chance for the presidency. But I was wrong about that too. So, it's hard to tell.

Palin has the unusual capability of blathering on about nothing at all, while smiling and maintaining positive body language, which makes some idiots believe that she actually has something worth while to say.

27. She'll board her private broom and go back to Alaska
I think there's about to be a civil war for the soul of the GOP. Get your popcorn ready.

She will be the mascot for the hardcore conservatives. Romney or someone else will be the leader of the sensible wing of the party.

If the conservatives lose that fight, then there is no Republican party anymore. They have nothing else to stand for.

28. I think thats too much to hope for
Its gonna be damn hard to top Landon in 36. Roosevelt got 523 to Landon's 8. Thats pretty damn failed, and a hard record to beat.

So I think Mc/P goes down as a fail, but a fail in the mold of Bush I, not a record breaking fail.

as to Palin herself, Its back to Alaska for her. She may get 2 terms, but will not get 3. It depends on how aggressive the new administration is on cleaning up republic lawbreaking. If the Justice Dept takes it into mind to research the details of Todd's contractor "friends", I suspect it will be a short stay for her. But if they let it slide, then she will be around to make an abortive 2012 run at the presidency.

Either way, I predict that she gets caught hunting illegally in 2015, and trys to wink her way out of it, resulting in bribery charges that end with her fading into an ugly obscurity.

32. She has a future, but also has no future

Sarah Palin CAN be elected, but only by a monolithic voting block. She will NEVER have ANY appeal to mainstream America. NONE. ZERO. ZILCH. NADA. NEIN.

Do we have people elected today that are inherently racist? fascist? Yes, we do...but they are congresscritters in very radical districts. Remember Helen Chenowith? Very good-looking, racist, milita-type Nazi ass...she was a congresswomen from... you guessed it, Idaho. Palin is just another version of Chenowith...hate-mongering, destructive, hypocritical fascist non-sense that will get elected by the same.

However, for major national office, you damn well better be able to appeal to people who are not your base. Bush did it, but barely. While Bush is a bozo, an idiot, a dumbass Conservative, even HE DOES not have many of the extremist viewpoints of Palin (or at least we don't know about them). In short, Palin is about 3 levels more to the right of even Bush.

The days of the Bush-type Conservatism are numbered and people certainly don't want to go even further to the extreme than him.

Palin may well become Senator for Alaska or something, but she'll never win an election where she has to get votes from anything other than far-right voters.
