Daughter of "Obama Food Stamps" creator explains how her mother is NOT a racist
Edited on Sat Oct-18-08 08:31 AM by underpants
"She was married to my father who is Mexican (pause) so explain to me how she could be racist?"

Just now on CNN. Sandoval is the woman's last name.

The Chairman of the Caffey Committee of Republican women (an African-American woman) says that this is clearly racist as it incorporates "established stereotypes"

Both of the CNN anchors weren't buying it. T.J. Holmes said "2008 this stuff still goes on in 2008" (shaking his head)

Followed by more stupidity. A guy with a McCain Palin sign in the back window of his pickup truck has found 7 bags of dog poo in the bed of his truck. His mother finally called the police and a neighbor was fined $83 for illegal dumping.

Stupidity abounds.

2. It doesn't matter who she's married to
Being married to a person of color does not mean you aren't racist.

3. Racism is about power, not image
You could easily marry a minority, yet still use race to gain control of the political discourse.

them to STFU and apologize for being bigoted asshats.

15. Exactly. She married a "darker" person, therefore she cannot be racist
What's sad is that she actually thought this absovled her mother of the charges.

Furthermore, most hard racists have a "minority heirarchy" that often places blacks at the very bottom. We are the designated targets no matter what.

25. Exactly
Which is why a lot of landed immigrants (even African immigrants) often treat American blacks like crap. And it doesn't help that this is the reinforced message in mainstream American life and media.

6. I saw that video
Apparently, because her mother's first husband and the daughter's father was Mexican, the fact that her mother lowered herself to marry a Mexican means that she's enlightened and isn't racist. The husband now refused to appear on camera and answered like a coward behind a darkened screen door in a very hostile tone that was deliberately obtuse about the racial stereotypes that the food stamp used. Yeah, I believe you people when you people claim not to be racist.

I try hard not to hate on white people but sometimes it's really hard not to.

12. Yeah, I was laughing when he tried to convince the reporter
That the choice of food used was completely innocent, and he had no idea that it was associated with black stereotypes.

16. I saw this on CNN too, about an hour ago...
...I loved the reactions from the anchors...it really is a shame this happens in 2008.

I can't believe how outraged the daughter was, that her mother was being taken to task for the "food stamp" picture. She was SO angry! "I eat fried chicken, watermelon, and ribs!", as the reporter explains to her that these are African-American stereotypes.

What a bitch!

19. Well, sure. I eat fried chicken, watermelon and ribs too. But anyone in this country who uses them
in the context this woman's mother did and then claims not to know they are associated with racial stereotypes and caricatures is either a complete moron or in denial or both.

30. Kool-Aid? That is what I thought was sadly funny
I mean if they knew anything about "black people" it would have been Grape soda or "Orange drink"

I talked to a woman I used to work with (I work in a predominantly black female workplace) and she had the same reaction "We do love Kool-Aid as much as we LOVE grape soda"--this used to be a running joke with us about company functions. HAD to have grape soda.

This shows how much the Sandoval lady clearly doesn't know what she is talking about.

Or Mixed-race (Indian or Mestizo) mexican? Mexicans are pretty varied and I'm reasonably sure, given mommy's track record, that daddy was a 'white' Spanish Mexican in her case.

Daughter/son can marry an Asian, Hispanic, etc. They may not be happy, but they'll deal with it. Just don't bring home a Black man.

24. Pardon my language, but bullshit
I grew up in San Antonio and have witnessed plenty of racism at the hands of Mexican-Americans. Particularly the "lighter complexioned" ones. One in particular was a supervisor at one of my former jobs. Whites were her 'equal,' along with hispanics, but she treated blacks like the help. It's almost as if it gave her permission to look down on people 'darker' than her.

Another friend of mine (Mexican-American again) who was dating a Puerto Rican was rebuffed by her parents because they were afraid if she married him, their children would come out looking "black." :eyes:
