The response here on DU and other web sites to Michele Bachmann's ill-timed and unfortunate interview on Hardball Friday is beyond heartwarming. It is nothing short of miraculous!
Since Hardball aired at 5:00pm EDT, more than $100K has been raised for her democratic opponent, El Tinklenberg. In addition, there is a petition calling for a Congressional censure of Rep Bachmann circulating across the internet.
What are we to make of this? Well, it would appear that there are thousands of people in this country who have reached the breaking point with the politics of hatred and division. It would also appear that the time to take action has come.
Many of us on DU watched in amazement as the donations poured in to Tinklenburg last night. Trying to keep up with the ever changing totals was almost impossible, and kept many of us up most of the night.
The enthusiasm was contagious. The written responses, funny, heartening and,in some instances, heartbreaking, but always inspiring.
Responses fell into two general categories: those who were fortunate enough to be able to send donations and those who were not.
For those who could make a monetary donation, thank you for your generosity. For those who wish to contribute, but are financially constrained, there are other, but just as important, ways to help.
Pick a thread on DU that speaks to you and e-mail it to friends and family. For me, it was the "Holy Moly" thread that best represented what I wanted to convey.
E-mail Chris Matthews, Keith Obermann, Rachel Maddow, Jack Cafferty, and Rick Sanchez. Thank them for addressing the issues we care about. Send a copy of that e-mail to their bosses. Let all of them know we appreciate what they're doing. Encourage them to keep up the good work.
Sign petitions, make phone calls, volunteer your time. None of these things cost money, but they are just as important. Just do it!
The phenomena we witnessed last night started with one person: Chris Matthews. He did nothing more that allow Michele Bachmann enough rope to hang herself. Another person, DUER CatBo, posted a thread (Holy Moly), and it was just that simple. Game on!
One by one, or all of us working together, have the POWER TO CHANGE. THIS. COUNTRY! We ARE the ones we've been waiting for, and WE. CAN. DO. THIS!
YES. WE. CAN!
