STEP AWAY! from the keyboard... my last Action Thread.

I know my action threads are generally ignored around here - but I have one more to post, because its just too damn important.
Pull out your calendars, and check these days:

Saturday, November 1st

Sunday, November 2nd

Monday, November 3rd

Tuesday, November 4th

If you have been volunteering, but are tired or busy - if you have not yet volunteered - if you are nervous about volunteering - JUST DO IT please. If you have vacation time - take it on any of these days. If you have any of these days off already, spend them volunteering for Democrats - please.

I'll beg.

Start here, find events those days. Go help. Its not as hard as you think. Right now they have switched over to Get Out The Vote - you will be contacting pledged or likely Obama supporters now. You can do it on your own or with a few friends, or you can find a local office, contact them and an Obama staffer will contact you, or steer you towards a team leader in your neighborhood.

There will be shifts set up already for those dates, you can choose the ones you can work - and please, PLEASE give as many shifts as you can. You can make calls to check if Obama supporters have already voted, help explain to newly registered voters where they go and how they go about voting, give early vote times and locations - its not intimidating, its not rocket science.

If you have strong legs, you can swing through neighborhoods and pass out voting information or hang door knockers on Obama supporter's doors. Can't walk but have a car? Give rides to the polls. No car, can't walk? Make calls or update data.

What you do there on those four days is so much more important than what you do here.

23. I've got some time off after my shift.. but cannot walk away from my job

for a couple of hours still.. Actually, my mom is throwing a monkey wrench at me this week. Vtr's just don't understand how precious the vote is to someone now in FL.. but she's coming in this week to help me with "have-to's" around my house. So, she's stealing my time from Obama, but I think Obama would understand.. my momma has to come first (I only see her 2 times a year).

6. I will be working all 4 of those days for Democrats and America

I'm in Oklahoma and I am devoting all 4 days to get Democrats elected to their offices. Andrew Rice is running against Jim Inhofe and we MUST win that race. McCain will carry Oklahoma and carry it big, but I intend to make sure every voter who needs a ride to the polls will get one.

My goal is that Obama gets at least 40% of the vote here. I know this is a lofty goal for this reddest of the red states, but if we work hard maybe we can do it.

Going canvassing today and tomorrow. Will do some data entry for my team leader later. May also make some calls. Oct 31 - Nov 4 - I'm scheduled for those four straight days. What else could I be doing that would be more important to me personally?

21. Just got back from a morning of GOTV blockwalking

Met up with a group of people who had neighborhood/voter lists.

Walked thru a precinct and placed doorhandle hangers that have a pic of Obama on one side and our county's early voting places/dates information on the other. TX early voting starts Monday!
It was a pretty good turnout for volunteers...30+ people signed up and the thing started at 7 am this morning. We split up and walked around in pairs (the event was to cover multiple precincts in the area). My walking partner and I did 3 hours worth and when we got back to the initial meeting site at 10 am there was a second round of people showing up and getting instructions/maps/lists.

I've never had so much fun doing to most mundane things - making phone calls, knocking on doors, etc. Even my 6 y/o as a blast!

It will be worth it on Nov. 5th! :bounce:
