Bachmann, Tinklenberg air it out - Report from last night's debate.
Bachmann, Tinklenberg air it out
Sharp differences between the candidates emerged, sometimes in sharp exchanges, on issues from the economy to energy to immigration.

ST. CLOUD - Confronting signs of a narrowing contest in the Sixth Congressional District, Rep. Michele Bachmann and DFL challenger Elwyn Tinklenberg linked each other Thursday to an unpopular President Bush in a debate with sharp exchanges on immigration, oil drilling and the financial rescue plan.

"Representative Bachmann continues to embrace this president and his policies and the failed strategies of the past," Tinklenberg said.

"He is more in line with President Bush's policies than I am," said Bachmann, a Republican, who cited immigration as an example.

Earlier in the debate, Tinklenberg said he supported securing the nation's borders but agreed with Bush's proposal to create a path to citizenship for some illegal immigrants, something Bachmann opposes. Tinklenberg's stance prompted the sharpest exchange.

"Without having some sort of a barrier at the border, we're going to continue to have the kind of problems that we've had with Olga Franco that we saw most recently in the tragic death of four children in the accident," Bachmann said, referring to an illegal immigrant whose minivan struck a school bus in Cottonwood, Minn. "These are preventable and we need to do that with sealing America's borders."

Tinklenberg replied, "I think it's just a little untoward to exploit a tragic situation to advance a narrow ideological agenda in regard to immigration. Going after Olga Franco and every other immigrant because of that accident just doesn't seem right to me."

Bachmann called that remark "highly offensive, especially for the families who are victims, not only just here in Minnesota but all across America" and said illegal immigrants were "bringing in diseases, bringing in drugs, bringing in violence."

2. Seems Bachman's time-machine also teleported her
Her views are a lot more like those of the German National Socialists in the early 1930's.

I'd like to know if she's also concerned about Iowans and people of the Dakotas.

3. This woman....
Bachmann called that remark "highly offensive, especially for the families who are victims, not only just here in Minnesota but all across America" and said illegal immigrants were "bringing in diseases, bringing in drugs, bringing in violence."

I didn't know anything about this goofball until Hardball last night. I was appalled enough at her McCarthyistic agenda, but now seeing youtube videos of her views on intelligent design, molesting dubya, quoting Ann Coulter as to why democrats can't be trusted on foreign policy....and now this vile quote...at a public debate???

She is batshit insane - she is EVERY wingnut stereotype rolled into a horrifying lump of walking, talking meat. How on earth did this psycho ever get elected? I am donating more to Tinks!

10. I guess you didn't see her appearance through the House floor on KO's show.
She said that it was Blacks and Clinton who directly caused the economic crsis. She wants to push a story of hate and divisiveness.

Have a paper bag next to you as you hear her statements...

11. Good Lord!
Thank you, I hadn't seen that clip. She is absolutely disgusting. I feel terrible for the sane people of MN-06. She's an embarrassment to her district and to our country in general.

4. "Bringing In Diseases"????

Okay, that's it. I was reluctant to send money to Tink even after Bachmann's fascist outburst because he's anti-choice, but now I will. It really doesn't matter nearly as much what House Democrats think about abortion anyway, relative to what Senators do.

This woman is quite possibly certifiably insane.

5. I'd like to thank Bachmann
in putting a spotlight on the MN-6 race for this election cycle. (CA-19 Radanovich, R-Sheep is running unopposed. Again.) I'm poor so I can't send money but I'll be there in spirit. May Tinklenberg's donation cup runneth over.

7. Where do they find people like Bachmann?
Do they recruit these folks out of Jesus Camp?

Seriously, this woman and Palin are twins separated by birth.

9. She equated humans beings to VERMIN!!!! DEAR GOD!!!
Bachmann is a nightmare and has absolutely NO LEASH on her mouth. I didn't think I could be more disgusted with this woman than I have been in the past. She has reached another level of disgust.
