The Arizonan's campaign comes out swinging against the http://www.nytimes.com/2008/10/18/us/politics/18cindy.html?_r=1&hp&oref=slogin">Paper of Record for a Saturday story profiling the potential first lady.

Piece touches on Cindy McCain's apparent distaste for Washington, addiction to painkillers, role in the current campaign.

Spokesman Michael Goldfarb: "...the New York Times fails to cover any new ground or provide any discernible value to the reader other than to portray Mrs. McCain in the worst possible light."

3. Considering that the McCain campaign has been playing gutter politics
At its very worst, it is not in a position to complain

6. It wasn't vicious
And if it lacked any mitigating perspective, it's because she declined to be interviewed. RWingers think press coverage should be contingent on their cooperation, when lack of cooperation only fuels media speculation. When will they get that basic social psychological fact?

10. They keep trying this gambit, and all it does is rile up the
"base". It won't win them one more vote.

Boy it's a stupid campaign!

12. Yeah he comes across as a cold b*stard
Snippets:

Recently, Mrs. McCain has called the separations painful, volunteering that she endured several miscarriages alone. She spent subsequent pregnancies mostly confined to home, Ms. Ross said, sitting in a favorite stuffed chair, watching videos. But she rarely complained.

The two often relax in separate places: Mr. McCain prefers the family’s ranch in the Arizona desert, while Mrs. McCain’s refuge is a high-rise condominium on the Pacific. (Her husband is “not a beach person,” she recently told Vogue.)

“I’m sure John hasn’t been able to get anything done, so send something Cindy would enjoy,” Marguerite Hensley, Mrs. McCain’s mother, would tell G. Darrell Olson, a local jeweler. “John doesn’t have a lot of money, so find something in the $5,000 area,” she added, according to Mr. Olson. (One year, Mr. McCain chose his own gift for his wife: a ring with her children’s birthstones.)

I almost feel sorry for her - note I said almost.

13. Ah...THIS is why Cindy's lawyer is calling for more media investigation into Obama's drug use!
Because surely there will be all KINDS of bugs under THAT rock that will make Cindy's problems look small by comparison!...

...actually, not so much.

16. Pot meet kettle
Goldfarb's statement about the NYT failing "to cover any new ground or provide any discernable value" other than portraying Mrs. McCain "in the worst possible light" could easily also refer to the stump speeches of McCain/Palin and how they're trying to portray Obama. Although, in Obama's case, the ground they're covering isn't even significant or remotely relevant ground.

17. Did you catch this weirdness in their "rebuttal"?
It is worth noting that you have not employed your investigative assets looking into Michelle Obama. You have not tried to find Barack Obama's drug dealer that he wrote about in his book, Dreams of My Father. Nor have you interviewed his poor relatives in Kenya and determined why Barack Obama has not rescued them. Thus, there is a terrific lack of balance here.

What is Barack supposed to rescue his Kenyan relatives from?

18. interesting article
From everything I've read about her, plus watching her interaction (if you can call it that) with McCain, she reminds me strongly of one person: Pat Nixon.
