Once again: The Complacency Danger:
"For Mr. Obama, complacency has become a critical worry. E-mail alerts and text messages will be sent in the coming days to re-energize supporters. With that in mind, he intensified on Thursday his criticism of Mr. McCain, amplifying the arguments that he had made in the debate instead of simply ignoring his rival.

“We don’t take anything for granted,” said Mr. Obama’s chief strategist, David Axelrod. “We’ve been up and down and sideways over these past two years. We have to be ready for anything. We’re not going to let up for one week.”

Mr. Obama admonished his supporters on Thursday not to grow overconfident about his recent surge in crucial electoral battlegrounds and national polls, making public a worry he has privately been raising for more than a week with his circle of advisers.

“For those of you who are feeling giddy or cocky or think this is all set, I just have two words for you: New Hampshire,” he told top contributors at a fund-raising breakfast in Manhattan. “I’ve been in these positions before, when we were favored and the press starts getting carried away and we end up getting spanked.”"

2. After 2 years and with 18 days left, it's the media provoking
these responses from Obama and campaign. Sure the media overheard in the blogs that Obama has a nice lead to win this thing. Then a little pushing and of course Obama is going to set the media straight and tell them mo way in hell with 18 days left to go will he cruise in on home. But not rocking the boat at this time or self destructing with 18 days left is also very important. Why rock the boat if you don't have to.

3. Who do they think we are? Usain Bolt?

I don't know anyone who is taking this for granted. Our local Dem office is getting busier, rather than quieter, every day. Everyone involved I know plans to work like we are 20 points behind.

5. Instead of the constant complaints about poll numbers...
...not being accurate or the media saying this or that...blah, blah, blah...why don't we all just focus on winning this election!!!!! If Obama is only 1 pt up we can win if we ALL VOTE...if we all do everything we can to GET OUT THE VOTE! Everybody wants high poll numbers so they can feel better, for instant gratification. Face it...the gratification will come AFTER the election, not a second sooner.

Honestly, I think the kind of hubris and gloating that happens whenever the poll numbers go up, is what could be our downfall. Resist your need to brag and taunt the wingnuts even before we have won. It's silly and childish. And stop taking such pleasure in their misery. We have felt that misery twice and I don't wish it on anyone.

Grow up people...and WORK, WORK, WORK!

6. If WE lose this election...
Edited on Sat Oct-18-08 06:35 AM by RichGirl
...and it will be OUR loss...we have no one to blame but ourselves. It will be OUR FAULT. Yes, there may be some fraud and some Bradley effect, but the increase in voter registration among dems should more that make up for that.

EVERYBODY needs to vote for Obama. The popular vote matters. Even if you are in California or any other solid state, you have to vote Obama! (not Nader, etc.)

And whatever you can do before or on election day is like getting an extra vote.

What you can do now:
Make calls (contrast a friendly, positive real voice to a nasty robocall)
Canvass or whatever your office suggests.
On election day..
drive people to polls
call to remind people to vote
be a greeter at the polls, hand out info (print it out if you have to) just a friendly smile and vote for Obama

Even influencing one person to vote Obama, is like you get two votes (legally)

The poll numbers at 4+ are enough to win. But work for a LANDSLIDE...a mandate that can't be questioned and will give President Obama the power to get things done.
