Pandora's Box
From: http://www.pantheon.org/articles/p/pandora.html

When Prometheus stole fire from heaven, Zeus took vengeance by presenting Pandora to Epimetheus, Prometheus' brother. With her, Pandora had a jar which she was not to open under any circumstance. Impelled by her natural curiosity, Pandora opened the jar, and all evil contained escaped and spread over the earth. She hastened to close the lid, but the whole contents of the jar had escaped, except for one thing which lay at the bottom, and that was Hope.

This resembles what we are going through right now. McCain/Palin have opened Pandora's Box and let all of the hate, racism, divisiveness, and calls to violence back out into the light of the world. These things have no place in a civilized world. Good, honorable, and courageous people have come forward to close that box's lid.

And there is still that one thing left in the box. That one thing that makes us all believe that things can be better if we work for them together drawing from each person's strengths. That one thing that has been so elusive to so many for the last 8 years.

Hope.

That Hope is still in the box. It's not going to be released to dissipate into nothingness. Our tireless efforts have kept Hope in the box. It has allowed Hope to live on for those that need it most. It's your Hope. It's my Hope. It's America's Hope. It's the Hope of all mankind. It is ours, and they will never be able to take it from our box.

10. Reading this caused me to understand for the first time.
I have an eye for flaws. I can spot trouble. I find it hard to be satisfied with what beauty I find, because I see that flaw.

I've heard it said that where there is life there is hope. Somehow that never made sense until now.

I now see that it is there to be used. It is always there. It can even be created. I have never been so hopeful as having watched Obama operate.

Something I've noticed is that it is indeed contagious. Like laughter coming from that other room. Suddenly you find yourself also laughing.

It dissolves hatred, fear, anxiety, sadness. The all purpose hope fluid.

I am savoring these moments.

15. Hope and Change
I hope that by releasing all of these shadowy issues into the light of day, there is an opportunity to see what was once hidden in darkness, and learn from them.

For me, the hope in the bottom of Pandora's Box is about releasing and then letting go of all the repressed racism, hate and divisiveness. But before we can let go of something, we have to know what it is we are letting go of--it has to be SEEN and EXPERIENCED. For too long these undercurrents of racism and xenophobia have dwelt in the hidden realms and not talked about, until now.

There will always be resistance to change, but I am happy to see how many people are finally ready for the future. There are enough of us, I think.

16. I agree with you, windoe.
They say the sunlight has antiseptic properties. Let's hope the sunlight shining bright on these negative issues will expose these people to truth and love for ALL mankind.

It's going to take time, but it can happen.
