Powell's endorsement is no-win for McSame
Most people at this point consider Powell a partisan hack who let go of any shred of integrity with the UN/Niger debacle. So if he endorses McSame, it means very little. OTOH, if he decides to put his country before his party for once and endorse Obama, it would be big news.

1. I couldn't care less what My Lai Colin does. He has no credibility.
For the rest of his life he will be the man who uncritically went before the whole world to tell what he knew to be lies.

11. He has no credibility HERE
But don't confuse DU with the real world. Unfortunately they are quite different. I don't care for Powell either, but it's fairly easy to see an edorsement from him as a benefit to Obama in the sense that some indys probably do have a certain level of respect for him.

2. I absolutely agree with you
Powell's endorsement would be a true example of what "Country First" means. I have to say I felt bad at how shamelessly he was used by Bushco. They knew that as a military man, he would be loyal to his commander in chief, even when that loyalty was not earned.
I think that his endorsing Obama will be a big news cycle story.

5. Not sure I agree - for some reason his lies never stuck to him
I would estimate that 50% of Amurkins still have a strong positive opinion of Powell even though most thinking people regard him as a lying snake. Maybe it's because of his statesmanlike low key demeanor, or maybe it's just that he jumped ship before everybody realized that Iraq had turned to shit, or maybe it's simply because he had the MSM snowed. But I think he is still highly regarded by a lot of people and his endorsement would mean a lot to McCain.

But if he is any kind of student of history he knows that in the long run he will be lumped in with the incompetents who dreamed up the mess we;ve endured, he won't endorse any kind of validation of it which is what McCain represents. It is not in his self interest to endorse the repubs this time.

9. It makes NO difference what WE think.....
the average american, and that means NON DUer, loves Powell and his endorsement means tons. My own wife, a true blue progressive, thinks the world of this man, even after all my preaching. So, I do believe his endorsement means alot.
