A plumbing license is not the only license "Joe the Plumber" is having troubles with.

The former Mesa resident has a suspended driver's license and outstanding court fines in Arizona, according to Mesa Municipal Court records.

"Joe," whose real name is Samuel J. Wurzelbacher, was referred to more than 20 times by Republican Sen. John McCain in Wednesday night's presidential debate for questioning Democratic Sen. Barack Obama's tax policy.

The man portrayed by McCain to be the typical, hardworking American revealed this week that he actually does not have a plumbing license, and now court records show he should not have a driver's license either, making it potentially even harder for him to get to work.

Wurzelbacher, who lived in Mesa in 2000 and had an Arizona driver's license, had his driver's license suspended by the Arizona Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Division on May 4, 2000, following a nonpayment of a court-imposed fine for civil traffic violations, according to court records.

America's new political icon, who owes nearly $1,200 in back taxes, according to public records, still owes more than $700 to the Mesa court system.

Records show he was cited for failure to stop at a red light and for failure to provide proof of insurance on Feb. 9, 2000, in a black Dodge truck at the intersection of Dobson and Baseline roads in Mesa.

I wonder if he realizes that or if he's just enjoying his 15 minutes. Within hours of the debate after McCain brought him up it was already revealed that he wasn't a real plumber, he made only $40,000 per year and had no plan (or money) to buy his boss' business which didn't make anywhere near $250k anyway. He would pay lower taxes under Obama than McCain. It was found that he owed back taxes, that he was divorced, that he was really a Republican...basically he lied about everything. Now each day they are finding out more and more about him and its no one's fault but McCain. If a presidential candidate brought up your name in his speeches the media and bloggers would be investigating you as well.

The McSame residence is in Phoenix, with his secret hideaway home about 2 hours away.

And I heard McSame say democrats are attacking Joe the plumber. Your damn right we are attacking him and anyone else we feel we want to. BTW, I live a few miles from where he lived in Mesa and drive through his old neighborhood all the time. It's just a typical middle class neighborhood - nothing remarkable that I know of. I will tell you this, red light running is all too common in the Mesa area. Three years ago a red light runner killed a mathematically gifted Rhodes Junior High School student on Baseline Road about a 1/2 mile from that Dobson intersection where "Joe" ran his red light. In that case, it was a woman who wasn't paying attention even though the area is clearly marked as a school zone. This was particularly sad for my daughter who sat next to this boy in her high school accelerated math class.
