Bachmann Calls For McCarthy-Like Investigation Into Anti-American Activities Of Liberals

Appearing on MSNBC’s Hardball today, Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) attacked the patriotism of Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL), based on his alleged relationship to former Weather Underground member William Ayers and the values of Obama’s former pastor, Rev. Jeremiah Wright. "I’m very concerned that he may have anti-American views," said Bachmann. "That’s what the American people are concerned about."

She then went further, suggesting that all liberal views — held by people such as Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, professors, and all Americans who identify themselves as "liberals" — are "anti-American." When host Chris Matthews, stunned by her remarks, asked Bachmann how many people in Congress hold anti-American views, she responded, "You’ll have to ask them."

I did, however, donate to his opponent and called Bachmann's office and asked to leave a message for Senator McCarthy. :evilgrin:

When the stuttering had stopped, I asked if the Representative was serious about bringing back one of the worst periods of American political history. Pretty much dead silence as a reply.

As I hung up, I advised the phone staffer that she might want to brush up on her resume, as I believed that her boss had just committed political suicide.

That 3 minutes made my whole day worthwhile.

The alien claimed distance from President Bush, with whom the real Bachmann swapped spit at the State of the Union. Seriously, Bachmann noted her opposition to the "Bush-Democrat" bailout bill (a largely accurate description). But does it undo everything else? Also, creepily, Bachmann said she would kiss Barack Obama if he wins, AP's Martiga Lohn reports.

Don't forget the translations.
There are conservative Republicans who have voted for some Democrats considered "liberal" on some issues.
There are Republicans who have been labeled as liberal. Conservatives have friends who are "liberal." Parents have children who are "liberal," etc......
We are not the only ones who are outraged. This is not partisan. This is not censure worthy. Just let her constituents vote her out. It will be discussed at length in credible news sources and likely in a book.

Yup, I'm outraged. I'm waiting for a mortgage workout I probably won't get, but I contributed to Tinklenberg anyway. And then I went on and added Dennis Kucinich, Al Franken, Ronnie Musgrove, and Obama again. And it was all because of Miss Bigmouth, and similar comments by Porky and Pootiehauer. (And I don't live in any of those states.)

Dear Representative Marshall:

I suspect you share my concern over recent remarks by your colleague, Representative Michelle Bachmann, that accused me, and others on the left side of the political spectrum in America, of being "anti-American." In my opinion, this is no time to return to the McCarthy era. Republicans are fanning the flames of discontent among their followers and creating the kind of political climate that led to the Kennedy assassination.

I am asking you to nip this in the bud. Censuring Representative Bachmann will send a message to Republican leaders that a more civil tone of rhetoric is required in this time of financial crisis and uncertainty. Allowing Representative Bachmann's comments to go unchallenged will be perceived, by me and others, as condonation.

I am a liberal, and I love my country. If I criticize America occasionally, it is because I love my country and I seek to improve it. It is outrageous that I may be called anti-American by a member of Congress for participation in the democratic processes that strengthen America, and Representative Bachmann needs a lesson in civics on this point.
