Talk me down or talk me up...

I am just thinking of the plain symbol on my upper left arm, where a short sleeve shirt would cover it (maybe the date 11-4-08 below it). BTW, no I do not yet have any tattoos, and I am 45 years old. If Powell endorsed Obama it may be the last straw for me.

I mentioned it to a couple people and am getting mixed reactions.

2. Probably would end up regretting that.
Think about those characteristics of Obama that attract you so much to his campaign, and get a tattoo symbolizing that instead. It'll have greater meaning.

If you have enough money for a tattoo, send it to the Obama campaign where it will be put to good use.

it would look great on my white truck... but I'm going to sell the truck

it's similar to the Zig-Zag Rolling Paper logo guy (captain zig zag, pierre l' toke)

blue obama

I was thinking it would make a great tattoo

I have a major scar, getting rid of ink... so I don't think I'll go there again in this life

23. See if Obama governs in a way that MAKES YOU PROUD FIRST
Can you imagine if you put the symbol on your arm and he does things YOU REALLY DISAGREE WITH?

For instance, the Clinton compromise on Don't Ask Don't Tell IRKS ME. I feel like he could have done better than that. Bill losing the Democratic Congressional majority without BEING ABLE TO PASS HEALTH CARE REFORM. We can't have EVERYTHING WE WANT but we can measured and principled.

He does that, GET THE TATTOO. You are old enough to be able to live with it.

26. I would sleep on it for awhile.
I somewhat regret allowing a Rabbi talk me out of getting a tatoo when I was in college. I think a tatoo can be something beautiful, if it has meaning.

I do have to say that of the people I know who have tatoos, most have come to have some level of remorse. I know a woman who is heavily tatooed, she has what is called a sleeve. Her feeling now about it all is that she was once the person who got all those tatoos.

I would wait until after the election and see how you feel then.

35. DON'T DO IT
itll be cool for about 4 years then you'll wish you never had it done. believe me, at some point all this will seem quaint and whatever. i mean seriously right now its all great with obama but what if he drops a nuke on afghanistan or is involved in some ludicrous scandal. i mean, it all sounds rosy now but why would you do somehting that's FOREVER. you're putting his name on your body for what he's done in the past, which is admirable, yet you cannot control what he's going to do in the future.

dude don't do it. i've got a tattoo and have had it for almost 16 years now. it's the stupidest thing i've ever done, yet at the time i got it i thought it was the most meaningful thing to me in the world way back when

times change.

tattoos don't

don't do it.

48. I think he should get Obama's face tattooed over his own face, and then the
rest of Obama every where else. So, when he takes his clothes off, it'll look like Obama standing there in a suit! :silly:

For the OP, seriously, I'd wait a bit. I'm not a tattoo person at all, so take it with a grain of salt, but I think a tattoo should be something extremely meaningful to you from your own life, and the symbol of a transient political campaign, no matter how passionate you are about it now, doesn't seem to rise to that level. IMO, but it is your skin, after all...

3 years down the road when he signs into or doesn't sign into legislation something VERY important to you for a reason that you don't deem worthy. I'm just saying.. politicians are the last guys i'd want to marry.. and a tatoo is a marriage of sorts. Cheap and easy to get into on a whim.. painful & expensive to get out of. ;)

43. The Obama symbol may be a bit much
It may get dated in the shorter long term if you get my meaning. In 30 years it will probably be cool again but in 7 you may feel like a tool.

That said, totally get a tattoo to celebrate the election! I love the idea of of marking important events with ink. I met an old sailor on the bus one time, he was covered in tattoos. Each one was a story, each one meant something, they were all memories and events. He wore his life on his skin.

Go for it!

44. There's an article in this month's
Glamour about what an enormous expense and how painful tattoo removal is, sometimes leaving huge scars. Be darn sure you will want to live with that where ever for the rest of your life. I got a shamrock on St. Pat's Day many years ago in honor of my Irish mother. I have never regretted that but it is pretty, small and where it can be hidden. I am thinking of another one but I take years to decide. I would not be too rash if I were you. Now if we do indeed win this election, maybe it would be something you would treasure forever. Just be really sure.

46. Don't do it. Tattoos are ink; it's not healthy. Aren't we all trying to stay away from toxic stuff?
It just CAN'T be great, health-wise, to permanently inject into your skin a toxic substance like ink. The tattoo guy will probably tell you different, but I wouldn't listen to him on that.

Instead, why not do a temporary tattoo? It's still ink, but it will fade away.

Yeah, yeah...some will say it's not toxic. Some used to say that mercury in your fillings in your mouth wasn't toxic, either. But we now know it is.
