"I am NOT a Republican"
Hate to post and run. I just saw this...

Voters contend they were duped into registering as Republicans

SACRAMENTO -- Dozens of newly minted Republican voters say they were duped into joining the party by a GOP-hired contractor with a trail of fraud complaints stretching across the country.

Voters contacted by The Times said they were tricked into switching parties while signing what they believed were petitions for tougher penalties against child molesters. Some said they were told that they had to become Republicans to sign the petition, contrary to California initiative law. Others had no idea their registration was being changed.

"I am not a Republican," insisted Karen Ashcraft, 47, a pet clinic manager and former Democrat from Ventura who said she was duped by a signature gatherer into joining the GOP. "I certainly . . . won't sign anything in front of a grocery store ever again."

An earlier version of this article said absentee voters who arrive at the polls without an absentee ballot cannot vote there. Such voters can request a provisional ballot at the polls, which is counted if election officials later verify that the voter is registered and has not voted elsewhere.

It is a bait-and-switch scheme familiar to elections experts. The firm hired by the California Republican Party -- a small company called Young Political Majors, or YPM, which operates in several states -- has been accused of using the tactic across the country.

1. Where is McCain screaming about voter registration fraud now?
My guess is that him and his campaign will be oddly silent on this one.

3. Here's the catch:
"Some also report having their registration status changed to absentee without their permission." If they don't request an absentee ballot, then they are caged in to provisional balloting.

4. That's ok
They can vote for Obama in the general election anyway and piss off the GOP once the votes are counted and they see all the extra Pubbies who voted for Obama. Then they can all change back after the election:)

5. That's was my thought too, but...
"Some also report having their registration status changed to absentee without their permission."

I wonder how many will be turned away without the option of a provisional ballot.
