Who will shame these people like Palin and Bachman and McCain
who are calling for McCarthy like investigations and castigating good citizens as anti-American? Who will stand up and ask if they know no shame. McCain surely recalls those ugly days of American history.

1. That's my question too...they need to
be held accountable for inciting hate in this incendiary climate.

They are definetly not to be ignored.

Hope SNL asks fucktard if she feels they're "Pro American" enough for her lying ass.

2. We need to stand up and we need leaders to stand up with us.
I refuse to go back to those days of fear and hatred. I categorically refuse for my grandchildren to be raised in such a nation.

3. I think they're shaming themselves
Just make political ads featuring their own lunatic fringe statements. Just play them back to a national audience for all Americans to see.

5. Palin and Bachmann have no shame
McCain will probably make some sort of public apology after the election.

8. As long as Palin, McCain, Bachmann and others of their ilk
do not have any empathy for anyone other than people like themselves, they won't be shamed. They are slaves to ideology, American Exceptionalism and racism.

They're not going to change even when people publicly shame them.

9. Perhaps not but I believe that
those who are seduced by this crap perhaps can be shamed into not supporting such rhetoric or the people who spew it.

10. It would have to be done by their peers.
Edited on Fri Oct-17-08 06:38 PM by political_Dem
Because if someone who they don't have sympathy with tells them that this is wrong, they're going to think it is all propaganda. Much worse, they'd probably shrug it off, "ignore it" or treat it like a joke.

But, it would probably be better if such folks were shamed by (the newly reformed)people who know them best.

11. As fellow citizens, we are their peers.
It didn't take a peer in the sense you are defining the word to shame McCarthy and put an end to that era. We must not go through another era like that.

ENOUGH!

I would also add then, that these are times which call for courage, conscience and bravery.

Using your stance, we all have the potential to take a stand against persons who continue to celebrate this type of nonsense.

14. Then we need to start standing up starting with Bachman
and call her out on it. Then call McCain/Palin out on it and the RNC out on it. This is one time we cannot stay silent and hope that someone steps forward. Let's stand up.

15. They won't be shamed
Even those Republiscum that don't actually hold these views have no problem whatsoever using hatred, division, and mistrust as a tools to gain power. Fuck if they care what happens to the country, its all about winning.

17. We can't shame them, but we can shame their peers.
We need to demand apologies from them;

We need to know who agrees and supports these views and statements; and

We need to know who will stand up and distance themselves from these remarks.

19. Want to hear something funny?
I'd never seen Bachman before tonight's Maddow show and missed the intro to the clip, catching only the part where she says that the candidates should be questioned about their loyalty to the U.S.. My first thought was that she was suggesting that Palin's loyalty should be questioned since she attended and spoke at anti-U.S., secessionist AIP's conventions. I can only guess that Obama's campaign is discouraging supporters from mentioning this. I'm mentioning it plenty at work to whomever I think is still undecided.

20. Give Matthews some credit for exposing her ugliness today.
He could have dropped it, but he skillfully drew her out and really let her hang herself.

25. You can not shame today's republican base. They are grotesquely evil.
Those people have no concept of shame. To them, there is nothing shameful about anti-American behavior or beliefs To them, nothing can be shameful if it is done in furtherance of their hatred and intolerance. And that is the base of today's republican party. But that hatred and intolerance will shame decent Americans into leaving that grotesquely evil and anti-American party. Senator Webb of Virginia is an early example of the inevitable tide of decent Americans turning away from today's republican party.

The death of the republican party is approaching because of that hatred and intolerance. They will drive out every person with "impure" beliefs and in the process, they will drive out decent Americans by the millions. Today's republican party is on its way to becoming a regional Neo-Confederate third party. Sadly, that transformation will take some additional time. I am old and it may not occur in my lifetime but it is inevitable.
