Al Bundy stumps for Obama

Barack Obama Friday found a novel way to appeal to the white blue-collar voters he badly needs to win in Ohio: Get Al Bundy to campaign for him.

And so Ed O'Neill, the actor who portrayed the embattled husband and father on "Married with Children" came to Youngstown, Ohio, to stump for the Democratic nominee.

O'Neill got a big welcome from the crowd at Youngstown State University, which had gathered to hear Sen. Hillary Clinton. "I haven't been here in 10 years," O'Neill said, 'and I usually don't get involved in politics."

Then he recalled growing up here, and urged a vote for Obama. The crowd in this working-class town loved it.

2. My mom met Ed O'Neill
he's a very bright and down to earth guy. Crappy show, but he deserves to work.

5. please re-evaluate Married With Children
puerile does not = crappy. it was a burlesque that drew knowingly on american stereotypes.

Peggy's maiden name was "Wanker"! getting that word consistently said on american tv is about as subversive as it gets.

12. "Married With Children" was more representative of middle class families than the show it spoofed
which was "The Cosby Show". In fact, it's original working title was "Not the Cosbys".

"The Cosby Show" had a two parent family, with both parents highly college-educated, and each earning around 6 figures annually. How many American families in the 1980s were really like that? Very few.

The middle-class family in America in the late 1980s and early 1990s was more like Al Bundy's.

"Married With Children" represented many actual American families. Along with "Roseanne".

"The Cosby Show" represented what we "wished" American families to be but rarely were.
