1. he actually did an interview in September 2001 with NYT - he said he wish he had done more

What he DID say was that he should have done more to fight the Viet Nam war. THAT is what was meant by the quote that was taken out of context.

,but the Vietnam war was so wrong and became so worthless.

So many died and so many felt powerless. Ayers felt called to arms, but he went too far and was too radical. He was into an emergency mode to stop the war,and his way was wrong. They saw injustice and tried to fight to stop it, but in America change is made through civil government.

This is the last quote from that interview in the NYT:

Thinking back on his life , Mr. Ayers said, ''I was a child of privilege and I woke up to a world on fire. And hope and history rhymed.''
