(If 12 million people voted again in CA this year and Obama won by 24-points that would be a plurality of almost 3 million votes! That would really cushion Obama's popular vote totals)
First Look at California After the 3rd Presidential Debate -- Obama Runs Up The Score: In an election for President of the United States held in California today, 10/17/08, Democrat Barack Obama defeats Republican John McCain 59% to 35%, according to this SurveyUSA tracking poll conducted exclusively for KABC-TV Los Angeles, KPIX-TV San Francisco, KGTV-TV San Diego, and KFSN-TV Fresno. Compared to an identical SurveyUSA poll released 11 days ago, Obama has gained 8 net points against McCain.
Among white voters, the lead has switched over the past three weeks. Three weeks ago, McCain led by 3 points; eleven days ago, McCain and Obama tied; today, Obama leads by 5 points among California's white voters. Obama leads 4:1 among blacks, 3:1 among Hispanics, Asians, and other minorities.
16% of Republicans cross over to vote for Obama; 9% of Democrats cross over to vote for McCain; independents favor Obama by 33 points -- twice the margin by which they supported Obama eleven days ago.
Early and absentee voting began in California on October 6. Among the 19% of California voters who say they have already cast their ballot, Obama leads by 21 points. Among voters who have not yet voted, but whom SurveyUSA determines to be certain to vote on or before election day, Obama leads by 24.
