4. Quite a few in my neighborhood too
Last weekend there were 3 people standing on different corners of a fairly busy intersection in my town, each holding up a "Yes on 8" sign.

I totally lost it, opened my window and screamed at one of them that she was pathetic and "don't you have anything better to worry about?"

I noticed that on the back of the signs it said "Religious Freedom = Yes on 8."

7. Well, it's a married couple and I am thinking about sending them a note that says...
...if a "gay" marriage threatens what you have, then you have NOTHING!

Fucking assholes!

10. I just started seeing
a flurry of them everywhere within the last two weeks. I live in Oakland, but travel frequently through Napa, Solano, Contra Costa and Santa Clara counties. There were only NO on 8 signs until very recently. I hear the Catholic and Mormon churches have pumped a ton of money into getting Prop 8 passed. They're flooding the airwaves as well, and using scare tactics about gay marriage taught in the schools, that sort of thing.

On a similar note, I hadn't really seen any McCain signs and stickers until recently, either. I'm now seeing huge banners in front of companies, such as Jelly Belly in Fairfield, and the Peju Winery in Rutherford, as well as some of the other wineries on Highway 29. I'd like to hope these are signs of the last gasps of Fascism. Meanwhile, I won't be buying Jelly Bellys or drinking Peju wine!

Edited on Fri Oct-17-08 03:08 PM by goodgd_yall
Aww, damn! I like those, too.

I saw my first yes on 8 signs after the first Sunday of this month. I drove off and immediately got myself a No on 8 sign. In my neighborhood there are also quite a few Russian immigrant families that belong to fundamentalist christian churches. They are very active in opposing gay rights.

23. Not Jelly Bellys!!!
I always dismissed the Reagan connection as merely marketing, since he said he liked them. But if they're supporting THIS McCrazy/Moosealini ticket from Hell, then they would have to be the worst kind of Repukes.

Looks like I've eaten my last overpriced jelly bean :(

37. I know what you mean
I like the pear-flavored and popcorn-flavored ones, or at least I did. No more. If I see any more of those huge signs in front of corporations, I'll report back to DU. Maybe this deserves a thread of its own.

12. I had a great moment with the asshole who came by to offer me one
Totally unsolicited. He had to make a real effort to get here. We're like 8 miles from the nearest populated area and our driveway is 500 feet long.

Anyway he knocks on the door and asks me if I want a yes on 8 sign. I asked him what 8 is and he gives me a response full of jesus buzzwords.

So I said sure I'll take on and he handed me one. I took it and ripped off the plastic portion of the sign and threw it in the trash can. Then I handed the metal frame back to him.

He turned red as a beet but decided he didn't want to press the issue. He ran to his car jumped in and hauled ass down the driveway. Even though my daughter thought I was rude, I still feel pretty good about my response to this geek.

I saw one on the easement while driving, made a U-turn, pulled it out of the ground and ripped it up. It felt SO satisfying.

15. A California propostion
It would change the state constitution so that gay and lesbian people could not marry. Several months ago the California supreme court ruled gays and lesbians could marry because the state constitution did not restrict marriage to only a man and a woman.

a few minutes after posting. Hopefully the no folks are the ones that vote more regularly, I would be mildly surprised if this prop passes in my native state.

14. There's 5 of them on my street
They all popped up on the same day---on a Monday---which makes me think they were passed out at church. Most don't have any other political sign out either---one-issue voters, that tells me.
I'm the only one on my street with a no on prop. 8 sign, though the Obama signs outnumber McCain signs 8 to 3.

I live in Illinois...I wish I could be there to volunteer. :-(

But thank you. It can't be stressed enough how important this is. Defeating this would be a big defeat to the religious bigots. And it would be a boost to same-sex marriage all over the country. As the saying goes, as California goes, so goes the nation!
