How much did McCain Piss off His Base last night?
Edited on Fri Oct-17-08 08:16 AM by CatBO
It seems to me that McCain is beginning to embark on his final tour, trying to preserve his memory and legacy as something besides a bitter, hateful, mean-spirited politician.

His mea culpa on Letterman, and his highly publicized and visual good-natured laughs in response to Obama's amazing speech last night will no doubt piss off the rabid members of his base. Here he promised to whip Obama's "you know what" and he's laughing and smiling and shaking hands with the guy!

Unfortunately, it might gain him some votes from Independents, but I'm imagining the "Arab terrorist" lady, and the "I'm mad as hell" guy and all the rest of the rabid, frothy supporters are feeling awfully betrayed right now.

To which I say, :woohoo:

1. He's walking a fine line - accusing Obama of being everything bad on one hand, "palling around" with
him on the other.

Guy is schizo!

2. Which begs the question...
Can we have a man in office who pals around with a man who pals around with terrorists? Who really IS John McCain?:sarcasm:

5. You know, that's really a fair question
...all sarcasm aside, there are some Republicans who aren't as dumb as we think and they don't like hypocrisy.

9. I really don't know much..
about John McCain at all. Poor student, POW, Marries an Heiress, Keating 5, running for President as a 'maverick'. That's it.

11. He crashed 5 planes :)
Cheney shot someone. Laura Bush killed a guy. Bush destroyed a majour American city. I am so excited that I am getting a president this time around that's more like me :) I can't fly, I haven't shot or killed anyone, and no cities were destroyed as a result of me :)

He almost seemed sincere.

4. I hate to say this

But somewhere in there, I think McCain has some virtue and I think he had to sell his soul to the right-wing devil to make a run at the White House.

Did anyone see his face/response from his rallies when people said Obama was muslim and wasn't American. It really did appear to me McCain nearly wanted to throw up.

I don't think he is a racist either and the idea that whiped his hand after shaking Obama's hand is absurd.

That all said, McCain is absolutely not qualified to be President for reasons far and away above the fact he's pandering to the most dispicalbe excrement of our society, but rather because he is a loose canon, erratic, and is simply running against a better man in nearly every way.

6. But...
...as long as he allows his campaign to use the tactics they are using at ANY level, I cannot believe he is in touch with whatever virtue he may have. Hah! McCain...out of touch, imagine that!

8. I agree with you
I don't think McCain believes 75% of what's coming out of his mouth. The GOP campaign hacks have done to McCain what they did to Bob Dole - turn a well-regarded veterean senator into an unelectable grouch.

10. I think we all have some virtue...
but I think John McCain has some serious issues from his experience as a POW. He strikes me as a leech, a rudderless soul incapable of making his own decisions.

12. Biden was on Leno last night...
and he was saying that he's known McCain for a long time and believes that John is really uncomfortable with the negative stuff and where his campaign managers are taking the McCain campaign. He thinks that's the reason for all the erratic behavior. Problem is, why doesn't McCain the "Maverick" stand up to his own campaign managers then? If he can't stand up to them, how would he stand up to his own party?
