Lieberman: McCain "won debate, turned the corner, changed the course, changed the momentum"

DOWINGTON, Pa. -- At a rally this afternoon, Joe Lieberman not only declared McCain the winner of last night's debate, but he also said that the victory would change the course of his friend's campaign.

"We turned the corner in the debate last night didn't we?," Lieberman asked over 1,000 people gathered at a sports complex here. "We changed the momentum. We're on the road to victory in Pennsylvania and through all America."

For his part, McCain said he thought he did "pretty well," but he said that Joe the Plumber was the real winner.

"Joe's the man," McCain said. "He won and small businesses won across America. They won because the American people are not going to let Senator Obama raise their taxes in a tough economy. They're not gonna let him do it my friends."

Recounting the story he told last night and the day before on the campaign trail about Obama's interaction with Joe, McCain criticized what he said was Obama's message to Joe, namely that the government should "spread his wealth around."

"He wants government to take Joe's money and give it to somebody else, his hard-earned dollars," McCain said of his opponent. "We're not going to stand for that. America didn't become the greatest nation on earth by spreading the wealth, we became the greatest nation on earth by creating new wealth."

Saying that he feels the government is not doing enough to help people stay in their homes, McCain again criticized Obama's healthcare policy for creating a fine that will kill jobs and make mortgages more burdensome. He also referenced Obama's words on offshore drilling from last night, saying that America has had "enough consideration" and needs to drill offshore now.

While praising the Philadelphia Phillies for securing their first World Series berth since 1993, McCain also defended his Philadelphia area supporters.

"You know there has been some comments about people who come our rallies, I cannot tell you how proud I am of all of you," McCain said. "I cannot tell you how proud I am, every working man and woman who's here, every family member."

1. Yep, he's got that great "Joementum" like Lieberman in 2004. How did that work out, Joe?
A phrase from my misspent youth seems appropriate here:

Your ass is grass.

You are going to have less influence than the lowest rookie senator, or worst right wing Repuke senator, next year, Joe.

Your pea-sized influence will make Larry Craig look like a kingmaker.

4. Voters of CT who were bamboozled by this bozo
should light up his switchboard and DEMAND he accurately change his party to Republican.

Since they're stuck with him for another couple of years, he shouldn't be allowed to be called an Independent when he spends every moment in the media kissing McCain's ass and talking shit about the Democratic platform - the platform which he so happily espoused to keep his own career alive.

Then when it's time for elections for his seat... Get rid of his sorry, backstabbing ass.

16. Hey Joe! McCain's been turning the corner four at a time.
He keeps going around and around and around by rehashing old talking points and not coming up with anything about how he will change conditions in this country around. He tries to say he's the agent of change when he's voted with Bush 90% of the time.

Yeah, he's turned the corner.

17. Did Lieberman ever get the censure that was debated about in CT?
Edited on Thu Oct-16-08 08:48 PM by political_Dem
I'm wondering if that was the case.

But otherwise, Liberman is nothing more than an opportunist who plays both sides. Now that he has chosen a side, it is about time that he fully embraces it. His time of manipulation is over.

In fact, McCain and Lieberman deserve each other.

19. off-shore drilling?
Can someone explain to me the specific, actual benefits of offshore drilling?

And no, people will not remain ignorant about McCain's tax-claims for 2 weeks. The old man can't see past 2 days. He picked Palin before, he picked more nonsense this time.
