But Bush tried to go to Vietnam!
At least that's the little tidbit being touted on the local RW radio I accidentally heard while changing stations.

The story goes that Bush tried to get sent to Vietnam but "they wouldn't take him" because he didn't "have enough flight time."

Then the second part to this fantasy is that Kerry only went to Vietnam because his "numerous attempts to get a deferment" failed.

These people are truly mentally disturbed. I can't remember what the psychological term is, but it involves accusing everyone around you of performing your misdeeds. This falls right in line, along with the chanting of "The fix is in" in Florida when it was they who did the fixing. There are many instances of this behavior over the last four years of this nightmare.

But, I guess we can just add this latest fantasy to the list of Bush's "accomplishments:"

He almost won the 2000 election.
He almost avoided a recession.
He almost stopped 9/11.
He almost caught Bin Laden.
He almost brought democracy to Iraq.

And now,

He almost went to Vietnam.

Vote for Bush! He's almost presidential!

1. Bull.
He checked the box that said, "DOES NOT VOLUNTEER TO GO OVERSEAS". They're idiots for saying that about him.. he refused a freakin' physical, and was grounded. He THEN was given a job in a campaign office... These people are full of shit.. they only want a tax cut. Never forget.. it's not abortion, it's not military, it's not honesty, it's greed. That's what motivates most of the republicans. They can say what they want.. but they all believe they will have to pay less to the gov't.

3. He volunteered..
for a program tht rotated relief pilots into Vietnam.

There are just a few problems with claiming that he volunteered for Vietnam, however.

1. He didn't volunteer for the program until one week before it was set to shut down.

2. Only a very tiny fraction of the pilots in the program were rotated into Vietnam. Most went to Europe or the ME.

3. He wasn't qualified for the program because he hadn't logged enough flight time.

4. He's the source of this claim, and there is no documentation to prove he did anything more than ask what it was.
