So...BF's birthday was this week, which called for making a batch of homemade cream puffs. I only make them once a year to celebrate 'his day' so the stretch of time between is always too long for him.
After thoroughly relishing the first cream puff he's had in a year, I said something about enjoying them now because it'll be another year until we have them again. He said, "I'm working on that. How much do you believe in Barack Obama?" "110 percent," I said. He smiled a devilish smile and after a some back and forth banter, a mutual agreement was made that he will vote for Barack & Joe and another batch of cream puffs will be made the weekend following election day.
I wonder if I've been 'had' in a friendly way? What if he had already decided to vote for Obama-Biden, even without the promise of more tasty treats? I do know for certain that Barr lost one vote and our guys gained one. Cream Puffs rule!!!

Chocolate Glazed Cream Puffs
Vanilla Cream Pudding:
2/3 cup granulated sugar
4 tablespoons corn starch
¼ teaspoon salt
4 cups milk (2% or whole milk)
4 egg yolks, slightly beaten
4 tablespoons butter
4 teaspoons vanilla extract
Blend sugar, cornstarch and salt in saucepan.
Combine milk and egg yolks; gradually stir into sugar mixture.
Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture thickens and begins to boil.
Boil and stir 1 additional minute.
Remove from heat; stir in butter and vanilla.
Pour into bowl; cool slightly and then chill completely to thicken.
Puffs:
1 cup water
½ cup butter
1 cup all-purpose flour
4 eggs
Heat oven to 400 degrees F.
In a saucepan, bring water and butter to a rolling boil.
Stir in flour; stir vigorously over low heat until mixture forms a ball, approximately 1 minute.
Remove from heat; add eggs all at one time to saucepan and beat with an electric mixture until smooth.
Drop by scant ¼ cupfuls, 3-inches apart, onto ungreased baking sheet.
Bake 35 to 40 minutes or until puffed and golden.
Cool away from draft.
Chocolate Glaze:
Melt together: 2 squares unsweetened chocolate plus 2 teaspoons butter
Blend in: 5 tablespoons boiling water, 2 cups confectioners sugar.
Beat with an electric mixer until smooth, not stiff.
*Glaze will stiffen/dry the longer it sits.
To Assemble:
Cut off tops of puffs with serrated knife; pull out filaments of soft dough (keep puff and its top close to one another).
Carefully fill puffs with vanilla cream pudding.
Replace tops; ice with chocolate glaze.
Refrigerate until serving time.
