MLB to delay Game 6 of the World Series for Obama ad
I really can't imagine this campaign being better. I really feel the need to pinch myself frequently to make sure I'm not dreaming.

"WASHINGTON (AdAge.com) -- Major League Baseball has moved back the scheduled start time of any game 6 of the World Series so Fox can also air the half hour Barack Obama spot on Oct. 29.

A network spokeswoman confirmed the buy and said MLB had agreed to the network's request for the delay. "

1. have you ever seen an operation so smartly and effectively run?
Obama has innate executive abilities. i even see the "leak" of debate preparation talking points as being purposeful because they helped set expectations, they communicated clearly Obama's message and frankly --they helped him.

2. But of course McCain will be offered equal time as the law requires
All he has to do is pony up the same $500,000 the Obama campaign paid.

15. The law does not require equal time anymore. Not for several years.

19. The law doesn't even require equal time for advertising anyway.
Even when it did exist, as far as I know.

8. COST: For a Half-hour Prime time...
Edited on Wed Oct-15-08 11:55 PM by quantass
Wednesday is one of the biggest nights of watched tv (Thursday and Sunday are the other two)...Wednesday is perfect for him because it gives the news cycles time to talk about it for the remaining of the week leading up to the election. Sunday is bad because it is 1-day before election and no one will talk about it the next day since their minds are on the election hours later.

Anyway, Commerical time on a 30-min program is 10 mins and so @ prime time on a heavily watched night a commerical can run upwards of $300,000 for 30 secs...so 10-mins of ads equates to $6 millions ... Thus for Obama to buy 30-mins on each of these networks would be $6 million x 3 = $18 million for his spot on CBS, NBC, and FOX. And he wanted to go on ABC but abc had other plans.

It's highly doubtful McCain will be able to scrape up this kind of cash to compete...he cant afford $18 million in this way which explains why we havent heard anything from him at all on this..too rich for his blood

9. So ABC isn't a money hungry media outlet or are they just being A-holes to the Dems?
I love seeing where the donation dollar go, not just on tv but the entire campaign is this huge wonderful force!

GOBAMA!

20. ABC's Chairman is a staunch Republican of the highest order.
So, it's no wonder that ABC would decline airing such a program.

Also, at 8:00pm on that Wednesday, Oct 29, they have one of their one-hour shows, "Pushing Daisies", then there's "Private Practice" at 9:00pm, and "Dirty, Sexy, Money" at 10:00pm.

So, I guess ABC also doesn't want to push back or delay by a week any of those three shows.

14. Anyone worried about this pissing off baseball fans?
I've already heard there is grumbling.

NOT being a concern troll, but people that can still be "undecided" at this point are deeply weird and anything could tip them.

Your thoughts?

16. Baseball fans are a fairly patient lot.
I think they'll tolerate 15 minutes without any backlash.

22. This happy Philadelphian baseball fan doesn't care when they show it
'cause Philly is in the World Series! :woohoo:

What's 15 minutes? Besides, IMHO, anyone who is supposedly "undecided" this late in the game, after what has now been 26 debates (including the primaries & VP debate), hundreds of commercials, and non-stop bloviating on the news channels, is obviously NOT going to vote or is lying. Besides, it seems the sports commentators are pissed off that their team choices may not appear so they probably don't care when it starts or if it starts at all, so they have already started downplaying it....but oh well. :P
