1. His closing speech did sound a bit like a concession.
Maybe he can reuse in November.

2. Maybe he can become a good family man
and dandle grandbabies from his knee, and take genuine appreciation that he does have a legacy, after all, and loves his family and lets them love him back?

Because a normal person might like that very much, with obviously nothing finincial left to gain, and nothing left to lose. Retirement is nicer than war. Many people would agree.
