Don't they make something like 20-50 dollars a hour?

I know I pay out the ass whenever I hire one.

3. Shit, yeah
One of my Mom's friends was married to a guy who owned his own plumbing business. They had the nicest house of all of her gang, retired and bought a big house in Florida.

7. I had a plumber who opened a drain pipe and black slime fell on his head
These guys deserve the money they make. It's honest work (mostly) and a lot of their work is yucky IMO.

8. If you score in the top 5% on your SAT, you are smart

...even if your mom's a plumber. If your income is in the top 5% of the nation, you're rich, even if your presidential pick is an asshole.

10. It really depends. If they've got their own business they can make serious bank
union plumbers make a good living

In either case ... they work directly with sewage and other nasty stuff.
They deserve what they make.

11. Joe the plumber isn't the guy who comes to your house, he is the guy who sends
the guy to your house to fix your pipes. Funny thing is, buy a few how to books, read them, practice sweating pipes with a torch or in todays plastic world just glue the pipes together. I almost forgot, most plumbing is plastic, I learned how to solder ( sweating )copper pipes as a youngster in the dead of a michigan winter helping dad when the copper water pipes froze.

12. check out "shark bites" at home depot
its a snap and no more sweating pipes. Plumbers won't use them on the job because they lose too much time. But, they use them on their own pipes.

15. They didn't have those in the 60's and 70's. When I was helping dad under the house
the house I'm buying has plastic pipes, I'm not to keen on them but they are easier to replace and easier to handle then copper.

14. Not according to this site
http://www.payscale.com/research/US/Job=Plumber/Salary

Says the average salary after 20 years of experience is $50K. $37K to start. Self-employed plumbers they put at $57K. A decent, honest living, but no fucking quarter-million.
