I Propose A New Rule: Volunteer or Don't Complain
I make a motion on the following rule:

Only people who volunteer at least 10 hours a week to the Kerry/Edwards campaign get to complain/criticize the campaign. If you're not actively working to get Kerry elected, then YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO COMPLAIN ABOUT IT. Either be a part of the solution or be a part of the problem.

Again, Gore "officially" lost by only 500 votes. That's one apartment complex in Ohio. That's three hours of canvassing a mall parking lot in Pennsylvania.

This election is close enough that we can win it by ourselves!

1. Ummmm...I've been volunteering since day one, and I'm still told not
to complain. It's a very nice thought you have, but many of us are out there volunteering. Just because we may have questions doesn't mean we are sitting on our hands. Assuming can lead to...well, you know. We're just part of the group that's not willing to fall in line behind everything. Look where it got us in 2000. Four years of insanity.

Thanks

Tell that to the people who tell me I should be playing checkers or
worse yet shutting up. People are having a difficult time with naysayers or valid concerns. This, in my opinion, makes us no better than Bush Backers who believe everything they are told.

2. Hey York County PA is doing its stuff. A lot more than
three hours! In three hours today, my husband, friend and I got 21 new voter registrations from the inner city. Every weekend until the cutoff October 2, we are out there getting registrations. There was no registration drive today, Labor Day weekend was mentioned. We said, what's up with that? Who cares? We went out ourselves anyway.

Will be manning the phone banks every week and took of election day and the day after so I can personally escort people to the polls!

8. That's goofy ...
I've signed up three times to volunteer for the Kerry campaingn and never received a call back to help them.

And I can't criticize the imcompetant goofballs making that mistake?

Harrrrrumppppphhhhhhh!!!! I say.

I do my own thing. Go my own way and don't take marching orders from silly people

If I didn't dislike Bush so much this campaign in my world would be burnt toast.

I wonder how many of those 500 votes were lost by goofs like the one I've described. I can give you 500 examples of this kind of garbage.

Get off your high horse.

17. have you written a letter to the
editor? or 4 letters? Have you called local talk radio stations in your state ten times?

Some campaign headquarters have it together and some don't, which is not surprising because it's hard to get people in doing the day to day commitee work. A lot of local organizations are filled with retired folks who have the time to invest. Young vital energy is needed in this mix to bring in modern volunteer management as well as go get 'em

You've got to understand that a lot of the times there aren't an overflow of volunteers nor organizers to utilize them.

Sounds like a place you could plug into the campaign.....

or not, whatever you like.

Don't forget to vote.

12. Friends let friends know when they're screwing up
Edited on Sat Sep-04-04 05:09 PM by rocknation
We DO makeu up the bult of the target audience, after all. We don't like what we're seeing, and we want it addressed before it's too late. The sooner it gets fixed, the easier volunteering will become. For instance, Kerry's mentioning of Halliburton, the Saudis, and AWOL in his most recent speeches has made me so happy I'm having a button made for fundrasing purposes.

Denial ain't just a river in Egypt.

15. Some of us have been Volunteering valuable time to Kerry Campaign from
the beginning of the primary campaign, yet are treated rather rudely here whenever we raise a point or order or criticism.

At this point, I rather trust that a critic is a real Kerry supporter
because the facts of the campaign indicates major underlying problems.

18. I guess my money's no good here...
I've given money to the DNC, senate and house races, clark in the primaries, and kerry afterwards. All within legal limits of course.

I have a family, my wife is 8 months pregnant and just dropped. We have childbirth classes and prep work to prepare for the coming baby.

On top of that I own my own business and thanks to our lovely economy I have to work a lot so that I can support my family. Our health care is more than our rent, and we're also buying a home, which will lower out costs, but then our health care will be twice our rent...not to mention other costs.

So I'm working 60-70 hours a week, sometimes in the 80-90 range, and give what I can in time and money to the campaigns. I just can't do 10 hours a week.

So I'm gonna bitch if I want to. I haven't yet. I just reserve the right to.

19. I have to work for a living,
so the way I support the campaign is to use some of the money I earn to donate to the Kerry campaign and MoveonPac. I resent being told I have no right to complain (which by the way, I call constructive criticism.) And speaking for myself, I do not think we are solely responsible for Kerry's win.

If he wants to win, he damn well better start acting like it. And whether or not this election will be a landslide or barely a win, I want to see him fight like our lives depend on it. Because it is our lives that are on stake.
